The 125cc Intermediate race had Andy Nelinger taking home the overall win. Round one saw Suzuki of Van Nuys rider Jack Greenberg lead wire to wire with Nelinger in second and third going to Zoli Meszaros. In round two it was Suzuki of Bakersfield's Gary Curtis with the holeshot and the lead followed by Nelinger and Meszaros. Curtis held on for the second moto win. The first round of Open Intermediate action saw a duel for the lead form between Marino Bastionell (Mai) and Meredith Steiner. riding under the colors of Anaheim Suzuki. In third, Frank Rowe was left to hold back a pack of storming racers. By the end of the moto, Steiner held the lead by mere inches. Bastionell crossed ove,r in second and following in third was Rowe. The second time off the line, Jim Lundgren, riding for Granada Yamaha, led a four way charge for the lead with Steiner riding shotgun. Rowe in third and Bastionell close behind in fourth. Lundgren fought off Steiner in a wheel-clashing duel that ended when Lundgren was forced back to third over the stadium jumps. Rowe then slipped on into the lead and held it to the final lap when beset with mechanicals, he was forced back. Steiner wasted no time in regaining control and by the end. Steiner scooped up top honors for the c1aas, Bastionell (who finished the moto in third) took second overall and third went to Lundgren with a 5-2 ride_ The fint 125cc Pro moto saw a battle royale go down between CraigDale, riding for Suzuki West and another Suzuki racer. Chris Swank, The two Suzukis battled each other down to the wire with Dale the winner by mere inches, The Suzuki-dominated race saw Steve Wiseman, riding for Pro Circuit, fighting throughout in third to hold back the pack of riden, When the machines blasted off the lien for their second round.
