George Holland took the 12!>cc Pro class, coming up with a last lap pass of Gary Denton to squeak by for the first moto win. The race was for the sportsman classes only and there waS over $7,000 in money, and prizes given out to the lucky sportsm.en, of which was quite a good turnout. One of the best races of the day was the Open Intermediate race. As the gate dropped for the start of the fint m.Oto it was Barnett Tool/Castrol Oilsponsored Andy Richard (Yam) with the holeshot and the lead followed closely by Thousand Oaks Yamaha's Vince Friedl and 7 j's/Maxima Yamaha rider Adam Ford. Ford passed Friedl and then set his sights on Richard. Ford then passed Richard to take over the lead. dropping Richard to second and Friedl to third. Richard then dropped back due to a flat tire. By the close of round one it was Ford, Friedl and Thousand Oaks Yamaha rider Rocky Hash. In the second round it was Hash with the holeshot followed by Friedl and Richard. Friedl was right on Hash until he found a way around him in a comer. Richard also got by Hash and was moving in on Friedl when Friedl went down on the long straightaway. Richard took over the lead, but bad in the pack Ford was working his way up after a bad start to challenge Richard for first. Ford put the pass on Richard to take the win, and the overall with Friedl taking second With a 2 -4 finish and third going to Hash with a !l-!> tally. The 2!>Occ Intermediate race saw Kal-Gard Yamaha rider Zoli Meszaros grabbing the lead. followed by SU2Uki of Bakersfield rider Beaver Ellis and Burbank Yamaha's Randy Morales. Meszaros and Ellis battled it out the entire race as they swapped the fint place spot back and fonh but in the end it was Meszaros with the win and Ellis in second. Round two had Glendale Yamaha rider Richard Ising off in the lead fol· lowed by Meszaros and Ellis. Ising put some space between himself and the second and third place riders, so again it was Meszaros and Ellis fighting it, this time for second. Both Meszaros and Ellis slid out going into one of the comers. giving second to Steve Souisa (Hon). Ellis got up in time to keep third place while Andy Richard (Yam) took fourth.
