Mike Phillips not only qualified nuber one with his 7S0cc, 16·valve Vance and Hines Suzuki; he set new ET and MPH National Records of 10.7g seconds at 11-9.84 mph and won the event besides. He heat the Yamaha 750 Seca of Joe Yeager. The final round times were 10.77/109.22 for Phillips and 11.95/108.65 for Yeager. FRANK GALLO Alabama ISDE Open Class Winner on Hi-Point Red Dot Knobbies Modlfled Lance Boyer, of Renoldsburg, OH. took the final round of Modified Eliminator. The Suzuki racer took on Paul Gast's hard charging Fast By Gast H2 Kawasaki. Boyer turbocharged his way to the win with a handicap-stan victory of lO.g0/1M.7g against Gast's quicker but losing 9.61/1g8.0g. Frank depends on "Red Dot" tires front and rear to deliver the big wins. For protection he wears Hi-Point racing gear. Competition Eliminator The occasional big winds continued to plague racers all weekend. In the Competition Eliminator final, Don Anderson of Waugatuck. CT, staged his GG/G Yamaha against James Asadoorian's Honda out of Marshfield. MA. Both riders race a handicap start. due to performance difference between the two bikes. That's standard procedure. At the win lights, both riders broke-out of their "dial·ins" because the wind suddenly died. aUowing them to go quicker. Asadoorian broke-out by 7/100th of a second and Anderson took the win even though he broke·out by 6/100th of a second. Don Anderson won by .01 secondsl He clocked a 10.61/122.28. Kawasakis, and Suzukis occupied the Stock ranks. Two Kawasaki 550 GPz machines made the fmal round. The racers were David DeCastro of MarshlieJd, MA, against Tom Faucher of Manchester, NH. At the finish, it appeared as though DeCastro was the winner, clocking a 12.97/100.gg. However in the excitement of winning his first National victory, DeCastro neglected to repon to tech for teardown required of all winners as deemed by the rule book. Under the rules, if a rider fails to report to teardown, the win goes to the runner-up. The win went to Tom Faucher. That's racing. Combo Eliminator Jeff Johnson of Framington, MA, rode his Honda to the win over Thomas Martin's Honda in Combo.
