Davis went 7.75/175.74. Bernard settled for a slow 8.90/125.79 mph. Davis advanced to m~t O'Brachta in the final round of T/F. jwt as the two bikes staged, Davis' crew chief noticed oil dripping from underneath their race bike. He signaled Wayne to shut down. That was the end of their ~kend. O'Brochta made a bye run for another victory. He turned a 7.68 at 149.50. Funny Bike Mike Bruso qualified thejBC Industries' fuel injected Kawasaki dragster in the top slot with a super fast pass of 7.97/166.05. Like O'Brochta, Bruso hit the lump in the right lane and got airborne. "That's ill" declared a rather not -too-pleased-with-the-track conditions Bruso. ''I'm not running again. It's not much fun doing flying "W's" and I don't want to fall off here." In the first round of Sunday's finals, Bruso raced against Kenneth Landwher of Franklinville, Nj. Bruso's bike had a power advantage and shut out Landwher's Kawasaki wit~ an 8.05/146.10 against a slow 9.~ I 129.51. Orient Express' jon Baugh had ignition timing problems with his turbo Kawasaki. However, he won his first round challenge against Bucky Moores' Kawasaki, which broke coming out of the gate. Baugh ran an 8.65/152.80. Next up was the number two qualifier. Vince Santangelo of Long· wood, FL. He staged against the Harley of Richard Sherman. However, the Harley had problems and Sherman killed the motor, giving- the round to Santangelo. Vince clocked an 8.14/154.57, jwt the same. The next Funny Bike bout was betw~n Sonny Michalowski's Harley and jim Yodock's Suzuki-powered dragster. Yodock raced to the lights in 8.57 seconds at 158.17 miles per hour against Sonny's coasting 10.27/105.69. In round two. Bruso faced off against Baugh's Kawasaki. Bruso was ready when the lights went down and left on Baugh. The Orient Express bike couldn't catch up. The winner clocked an 8.29/157.61 to the loser's 8.61/152.28 mph. Yodock ran his Suzuki against Santangelo's Kawasaki in this one. But Santangelo. who was riding his exMike Murdoch fueler for only the ~ond time this season, found traction fint and clicked off a very quick 8.02/ 166.66 against Yodock's 8.58/155.70. Bruso met Santangelo in the finals. At the ~n. it looked as though Santangelo pulled a holeshot. At midtrack. Bruso's gearbox let go and Mike coasted through the traps, done for the day. Santangelo rock and rolled his way to his first national victory in 8.08 seconds at a s~d of 167.59 miles per hour. FRANK STACY Alabama ISDE Overall & 250cc Class Winner wearing Hi-Point GP Gloves ProStock Terry Vance was top qualifier in Pro Stock after a late evening pass of 8.69/151.51 during Saturday night:s Jlualifying round. He drew a bye run in the first round of Sunday's fmals. "Superbike Mike" Keyte qualified llumber two with his bright red KZ 1000 Kawasaki. His time was 8.84 at 150.75. Mike has b~n running right n Vance's heels at both the Gatorationals and the SouthEastern ationals. This event was no different. Vance moved to the semi finals after utting away john Mafaro's Kawasaki t of Hackensack, NJ. The times were .92/149 against 9.18/140.62. "Superbike Mike" put away john acbs in round one with an 8.881 49.25 effon. Keyte did the same to Frank wears Hi-Point for comfort and' protection.
