Taylor was using lines oth~r rid~rs ncv~r found as h~ lit~rally flew around th~ track. In round on~ "Flyin' Bryan" took th~ I~ad on lap on~ and by lap three, h~ began lapping rid~rs. Am~rican Honda's St~v~ Wi~ crui~d in second with a cast/brac~ on his l~ft hand. In third plac~ was hard charging Willi~ Ph~~ (Hus) who had his hands full with Scooter Bates (Yam) in pursuit. Wh~n th~ ch~ck~rs cam~ out, Taylor was still in command as h~ took an ~asy victory, Wi~ coasted across in s~cond with Ph~~ fl~ing thir~, Bates was fourth and Cart~r's Jimmy N~il in fifth. Round two began with Wise taking off th~ kid gloves, grabbing th~ hol~· shot and ~tting th~ pac~ until lap two wh~n Taylor sailed passed Wise on on~ of many jumps on th~ v~ry fast Burl~· son course. Taylor's dominanc~ carried him to th~ final tum wher~ a lapped rid~r lock~d up th~ victory for Taylor. Wedding wastes Tex-AMA Conroe MX By Mike Reilly CONROE, TX, APR. 19 The second race of the four-event Tex-AMA Series was held at Conroe Motocross Park on Eastel Sunday, a day celebrating the greatest of all resurrections. A Saturday night rainfall had soaked into th~ sandy soil of th~ short but chall~nging course, and ~arly Sunday, th~ track was tacky for th~ Amateurs. By the ~nd of th~ day, how~v~r, th~ Ex~rts found th~ track id~al and lap times got short~r as th~ day grew longer. . Bryan Taylor found th~ track much to his liking. "Flyin' Bryan" scorched th~ cou~ on his U.S. Suzuki RM ~tting th~ fastest lap of th~ day in th~ s«ond moto of the 125cc Expert class. Taylor's two minut~ flat record speed highlighted his doubl~ moto victory for th~ day. Taylor was ncv~r seriously chall~nged ~ither race. His main com· petition in the ftrst moto, Alley Semar from Louisiana riding a Honda, got a Iat~ start and finish~d s«ond scveraI s«onds back. MiIr.~ CJ~~nts, a loa! Suzuki rider, battled with Taylor for scverallaps of th~ final molO bd"or~ r~· tiring, handing ov~r th~ third position in th~ moto and ov~rall to Ron Dawson. T~am Husqvama's Der~k W~dding from Marshall, TX was th~ most prolific of the Experts dominating two classes for wins in both th~ 250 and Open Expert contests. Wedding showed up for th~ championship with only his factory 250. Both rid~r and machine wer~ w~1I acquaint~d and, W~dding had littl~ troubl~ winning both motos of the 250cc class. Houston's David McClain rOO~ a T~x·MX Honda 'to runner·up in both motos and was in range to talt~ advantage of any Wed· ding mistalt~. Stcv~ Stacltabl~ was sharp and consist~nt on his Maico for third overall. Stack's problems centered around slow starts and a multitud~ of scrappy Texas youngsters who showed no i-espect for one of the IDOIt SUCCCIIfuJ riders in the history of the Texas sma. Wedding, a record holder himself a.I th~ only man to ever win three series championship' in on~ year, breezed through tbe 2505 but had to play "manufactur~r's ~p" bd"o~ lining up for the Open class rac~. Committed to a Husky, Wedding scrounged th~ pits until be found a suitabl~ rid~. The bik~ was not set up to his preferenc~ and Derdt was beat~n in th~ flTSt rac~ by Stackabl~. During th~ int=isaion all probl~ms w~r~ eliminated and Wedding cam~ out swinging in th~ second round for a convincing win 0Ytt Stacltabl~. Steve's finishes were sufficient for s«ond ov~rall and fonn~r Novice champ GI~n Goodi~r was third ov~rall with two third'plac~ finishes on a Honda ... "I couldn't b~licv~ how I luck~d out," admitted an ecstatic Chris Wells r~f~rring to his good fortun~ in winning th~ U5cc Int~nnediat~ class. W~IIs, riding a T~xas Yamaha, was third in the first moto and lilr.ewile at th~ start of the IICCODd when the two riders in .front of him crashed. It just lID happened that the two riders tn-
