DICK BURLESON
Brand and Turner were up and charging again. but they ran out of time.
Brand tried hard but could not get
past founh place A.J. Whiting (Yam).
himself a victim of a bad stan and the
Kline pile-up. Turner charJ{ed hard
but could only place seventh behind
Erik Kehoe.
In the ll!!)cc Pro final, once again
the focw was on the stan line. Remem bering his disastrous l!!)Occ stan.
Ron Turner went for broke and pulled
the holeshot. Turner wasted no time in
sttttching his lead to near untouchable.
Bill Ouelette and Craig Dale ran l!-ll
until A.J. Whiting came from behind
and moved into second. Turner suffered another near disaster when bike
problems on the last lap allowed
Whiting to close within a bikelength,
but once again time was a factor and
A.J. had to be content with second.
Ouelette and Dale trailed in for tliird
and founh. withJohnWbelchel taking
the last paying position at fifth.
The Open Pro class ran two regular
motos. and the first went to ironman
Ron Turner after a come from behind
charge. Pete Snoneland followed in
second. just ahead of Tom Burgess
(Yam). Bill Hagen and Tracy Oswell
rounded out the top five.
In moto two fate once again struck
Turner. His 465 Suzuki's rear end
kicked up, not allowing him to brake
in time for the first turn. sending him
over the bars and berm for the second
time. Turner. luckily just bruised. retired and left Snoneland with an easy
win. Second place went to Oswell, with
Hagen, Clark Jones (Hus) and Tom
Kelly (Hus) rounding out the top five
in the second moto. Overall it was
Snoneland. Oswell. Hagen. Burgess
and Jones taking home the cash.
