CA 95827 Bob Kline (&1' won at AME. zaros and into the lead, with Greenberg running third and Eddie Guajardo (Suz) in fourth. A frenzied duel for second went down between Meszaros and Greenberg, ncclt and neck and wheels clashing deep into the sand. Greenberg, known for his ability to move up through the pack, rather than holeshou, broke loose and jumped off the dropoff and into the lead, pulling away into a !IS-second lead, plus change. Wright, who had been in control, crashed and was set back to fourth. When the moto wound to a close it was Greenberg, Meszaros andJohn CrosIr.cry (Yam). When the racen blasted off the line for their second moto, a Honda led the way with Jon Turner aboard. With Meszaros in second, Wright running third and Greenberg in fourth, the action was hot and heavy. Meszaros took charge and left Turner and Greenberg to a duel for second. Wright, now in fourth, had his hands full holding back Mark Davenport. Greenberg managed to slip a wheel under Turner and thought he had the inside track on Meszaros, only to be held at bay close to the end. Finally Greenberg edged on by for top honon of the day. Meszaros took home second place gold and Wright, who moved by Turner for third, claimed third overall. The 2SOcc Pro ranks found themselves missing a good friend as well as a stiff competitor. Pete Snorteland, well known to southland race afficianados, had been in an accident the day before, fracturing his ankle and forcing him to the side lines. Bob Kline, however, was in good form and out for a win, holeshotting his Dick Allen Yamaha off the starting grid and up the hill with Willy Simons in hot punuit for the start of the fint molO. Simons, now working with Jimmy Weinert and riding for '1ammin' U.S.A." turned his Kawasaki loose and was right on top of KIinc until going down in a tum and dropping to IICVCnth. With Mark Parkerson, Craig Cole (Mai) and Van Nuys Cycle rider Todd Clark running 2·!I-4, Simons had his work cut out for him. True to nature, he grabbed a handful of gean and simply burned a green streak clear around the track, bringing himself back into second before the moto drew to a close. Kline clinched the moto win, on his way to the overall and Simons breezed home in second with Todd Clark secure in the third place slot. The second time out, Kline roosted out of the gate and into the lead.
