AUSTIN, TX, APR. 18 For seven days, misty skies threatened Austin with rain, but Saturday night found the Capital City Night Motocross track abounding in traction. Austin's Ronnie Taylor jetted into the lead at the beginning of the first EXpert moto. Jerry Farmer Yamahopped into second while Chris Loftin floated his 125 Suzuki into third. Taylor clung to the lead for a lap, but Farmer passed him in the air over the triple jumps. Loftin squeaked his Suzuki past Taylor on the back straight and set his sights on Fanner. Loftin put on the show of the night during his banzai charge after Farmer Chris ricocheted off berms and did skyshots off the jumps until he was right behind Farmer. Loftin picked a good line and held the gas on longer than Fanner into the second turn to grab the lead. That lasted to the back straight where Farmer powered his 250 bad into the lead to stay. Farmer took the win followed by Loftin and Taylor. Farmer grabbed the start of the second moto, John Middleton held second and Loftin third. Middleton and Loftin got into a dogfight that brought them dOR to Farmer. Middleton began to tire and Loftin got past, resuming his fint moto battle with Farmer. Loftin put on another show for the fans, but Farmer took home the win. Farmer took the overall win in the Expert class with Loftin taking top honon in the l25cc Expert class. Intermediates also ran combined and put in some fine racing. Mitch Mitchell gassed his 250 Yamaha to the win in both motos but not without a fight from Carl Been in the fint round. Pete Gray stayed closer during both motos but could not get around Bums, David Campbell held off Jimmy Hill and Tim Gatlin to win the 250s.
