Then in the Modified division. Evans, after a first moto win over Palmer, decided he could "double up" on the six jump series. To make a long story shon, Billy "ate it," thus leaving the door open for Suzuki· mounted Palmer to cruise home the victor. The Expen Mini classes were literally non·existant Sunday, so let's •taUr. about those Intermediates. and plenty to say too. as the Yamaha rider from Blythe. Richie Dobbs. had a great day going four fOT four over "Bullet Bader" Manneh (Kaw) to take both the Stocks and the Modifieds. Looks like a. new Expen rider will be appearing soonl We are not getting worried' about the lack of Expens as the Intermediates are really strong with Dobbs. Manneh, Brundage, Conney. Bjornestad. etc. on the way up. I Yamaha·mounted Charlie Sampson got himself .a transfer to the Inter· mediates with his two for two Stock Novice class win, but had to settle for a second in the Modifieds as Kawasaki rider Mike Thompson squeaked out a tie· breaker with a 2·2 finish over Sampson's 1·3. Two other classes were really big: the 12·16 and 9-11 Beginners with Rich Schulenberg going two for two over an always-there Paul Masek. The 9·1l·s saw Greg Rio do likewise over David Heiser who had a come from behind effon over Darin Maw. Results M1NK;VCLE sTK EX: 1. Chris Swift IVarn); 2, K""ny Dunlap IVaml. MOD EX: 1. Australian tops R.A.C.E.OCIR MXopener By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, APR. 2 After a long off-season period. nighttime motocross racing started up again at Orange County Imer· national Raceway with a full house of riders. There were some changes made such as a relocated starting gate and first turn. The World Mini Grand Prix is coming up and this event is attracting riders from around the world. Shane Millbourn is from Sidney. Australia and since he was in town he decided to try some nighttime racing. The outcome was definitely in his favor as he downed the 60cc ovice pack. Shane led from start to finish for the overall win and if this is any indication of how 'he will do in the World Mini, he will return Down Under with a trophy as tall as himself. Gary Morton took his Suzuki to second in both motOs for second overall. "Mad Matt" Foster placed third on the evening. The big gun from Premier Yamaha is Todd Peterson. Peterson dominated both the 125 and 250cc Pro classes in last year's racing at OCIR and Ascot. There was nobody tough enough to stop him tonight in either class. Ten competitors lined up for the 125cc Pro class and jimmy Mitchell had the jump on the pack for one lap. Then Todd took over the top position while Mitchell secured second with no problem. Rich Collins, who hasn't' been out for some time,- held on to third place over Harley Hall who Just recently moved up from the Intermediate pac....
