Soft-cover, 52 pages. $10 "This book is about going fast on a motorcycle., .(and) is . intended as the text fOT the Penquin Roadracing Schools, but you don't have to attend or even be .be on the track to benefit from this book." Those are the words of Joe Zeigler and are pan of his introduction to How To Fly. Zeigler isn't hyping his book in the above statements, he's tellinR it like it is. How To Fly is a concise, [0 the point book that is perhaps the finest primer for road racers we've seen in years. I've always compared books such as How To Fly to the 1963 dassic The Art of Motorcycle Racing by thelate Mike Hailwood and MUTTilY Walker. How To Fly, with far fewer pages, holds its own when compared [0 the Hailwood book, which to our knowledge is no longer available. Following Zeigler's introduction are sections entitled The Motorcycle .. picking a bike, basic preparation, and improving on srock; Basics, which covers a multitude of road race' subjects from how to go fast slowly [0 tuning your body (the latter by Dr. Craig Baldwin); Track Safety .. rules, flags, etc.; and finally an appendix that touches on items usually ignored in "how [0" books. If you have eyes for TOad racing and are unable .for one reason or another ~o attend a Penquin Roadracing School, the $10 you should spend on How To Fly might be the best investment you can make in your pavement pounding career. If $10 sounds like a lot of money for a 52 'page soft· cover book that inight help you become the· next King Kenny., consider what you have left of the last <:ase of beer you forked out $10 for: And as an added plus you'll get to see a picture of Wes Cooley doing .. ,shucks, buy the book and find out for yourself.
