The dust was as thick as any desert race ever, with no means of getting away from it. It was Kevin Hopkins, wearing his now-familiar blue Mickey Mouse shirt, who took an immediate, commanding lead off the start. The front starting line of this race was quite unique. Numben three and four were held by brothen Pete and Bill POlItel, while numben five, six and seven were possessed by Kurt, Kent and Scott Pfeiffer. It looked lilte a real family .affairl Pete POlIte] took over the second spot followed by brothen Scott and Kent Pfeiffer with Paul Palmer moving into the fifth slot by the end of the tint loop. The second, third and fourth laps were still led by Hopkins with Pete POlIteI in the second spot. Kent Pfeiffer had moved into the third slot in the second and third laps, but had been displaced in the fourth by hard-charg· ing Donnie Morrison, another Mickey MOllIe Racing Club member. Palmer ~d broken and was out of the race. By the fifth lap Bob Maxwell had displaced Kent Pfeiffer in the top five overall. The final unofficial results had Hopkins and Mormon (both riding out of Dick Allen's Yamaha) in the fiat and second spots, followed by Pete PoIte.1, Maxwell and Scott Pfeiffer. Dawn Grant, former number two daert gal and current stunt woman for the movia and TV, came out of retirement and earned a fint place in her c1.... Lynette Zuber took second. Tricia Farmer earned the fint daert honon. Rescue S was ever present and went into action numerous tima as riden went down.
