The U.S. team's chances suffered right from the beginning when Gary NUon, the fastest rider of either team, crashed in practice before the first race and broke his wrist. The British team. led by Paul Sman and Ray Pickren, went on to stomp the Americans. Best American rider was DickMann. ARROWHEAD STADIUM SATURDAY MAY 2, 1981 Riding a Triumph. Mark Williams defeated Mark Brelsford (H·D) to win the Boise (10) Spring Opener TT championship. Sonny Burres placed third. In the Junior class, Pacific Northwest rider Randy Scott (Tri) defeated then·Californian Gary Scott (Tri). Washington's Steve Baker won the Novice main event. JOOy Nicholas (Nor) held off a strong, last·lap challenge from Rookie Expert John Hateley (Tri) to win his second Ascot half mile in as many weeks. Gary Scott was also a repeat winner in the Junior ranks, and Scott Brelsford made it two weeks running as the head of the Novice herd. The infamous Norton "Wreclr.ing Crew" struck at the AFM's Easter GP at Orange County International Race· way. Bill Manley,one·third of the gang. struck first by placing first in the Open GP heat, on his un·faired Production racer. But then a sour engine in the final relegated him to second behind Reg Pridmore (Nor). Another third of the Wrecking Crew, Jack Simmons, won Open Produ~on. Jack O'Leary won the Open Expert class at an Austin, TX. motocross. Gary Parker recovered from a crash - caused when a trio of young ladies reponedly employed at a topless bar did their professional routine traclr.side just as the Open Expen pack roared by - to finish second. Jack Hicks won both the 125 and 250cc Expen classes; no word on whether he faced any distractions. Frank Duno returned from the Widowmaker to top a hillclimb at Saddleback Park.
