In last week's .report on the SCORE Mexicali 250, Scott Coutts and Daryl Follu were reponed as finishing third, but sublequently being protested and disqualified. What actually happened, according to Casey Follu of Sportsman Cycle, is that the HUlky Producu/ Sportsman Cycle/R.C. Buildeu team finished the race and put their bike in impound per SCORE rules. Provisional results were posted showing them third in Class 20 (125s) so Casey Follu figured, "Fine." They didn't win, he had spent five days in Mexico and didn't want to hang around any longer than necessary_ So, after about an hour and a ,half, he loaded up the bike and headed back to Las Vegas. SCORE rules state that all vehicles must remain in impound for 24 houn, though. When someone saw the Coutts/Folks bike being removed from impound, they lodged a protest against them about five minutes before the protest period was up. The protest was for being over the displacement limit and with the bike being unavailable for inspection, Coutts/Folks had to be disqualified. Ulrich's protest contended that the Yamaha had run a motor with prototype parts in the earlier event, and the protest was upheld by the AFM Board ofDirecton in a Mar. 28 meeting. "The Willow Springs protest was unfortunate, but as a member of the AFM Rules Committee, I felt I had to do it," said Ulrich.
