under the trees, emerging with Fiu·
Gibbon in control and Baumgartner
still a clOle contender in second. In
their wake, they left Chris Cole and
Piatt?ni, running t~rd and fourth reo
spectlvely, throttle Wlde open, fighting
off the rest of the field. Baumgartner,
plagued by lapped riden, found his
shot at the lead weakening but man·
aged to hold onto second to the end.
When the cbeclr.ered flag waved them
home, Fiu·Gibbon cruised down Victory Row, BaumgaRner took home
second place honon and Piattoni
clinched third overall with a 5-4 ride.
Min Beier, iep..'.... nting U.S. Yama·
ha, turned in a beautiful pair of backto·back wins in the U5cc Pro class.
From the start of the fint moto, a
battle royale shaped up between Beier
and Micky Dymond, riding for La
. Habra Yamaha. T'hae two soon sepa.
rated themselves from the rest of the
pack. Flying off the double jumps in
tandem were Suzuki support rider
Robin Rhodes and Andy Kirker, defen~ng the honor of his sponsor, Sid
Sqwd R&D. A battle for third
hounded these' two through both
motOl. With change taking place
throughout the pack, Beier and
Dymond left it all far behind and es·
tablished superb leads to the end. At
~ fmi;sh line, Beier and Dymond van·
~ed, ~ fint and second respectively
With Kirker and Rhodes cinching
third and fourth.
!he secoDd time out of the gate,
Beier led with Kirker on his tail. Back
in sixth, .Dymond .",:as riding circles
around hiS competItIon. One minute
in fourth, the next instant in third
Dymond was going for itl Beier, Kirke~
and Dymond, rounding out the top
three were well·spaced and way out in
front of the rest of the action. In
fourth, Rhodes found Vaun Butler
coming in clOle and fought to the last
minute to hold him back. Dymond was
pressuring Kirker with only one and
one·haIf bikelengths separating them.
On the back section of the track, Kirk·
er went down but remounted in time
to take over third, giving second over
to Dymond.
When the winner's flag came out
Beies: rode home to top money, so fa~
out m front he couldn't even spot
Dymond. Dymond claimed second
place loot and third overall for the day
went to Kirker.
