Ce.kal PipeliDe 00 en Anderson doubles at soaY Woodland MX By Jan Newman WOODLAND, WA, MAR. 7 Things got a little out of hand weather wise today. The day started out pretty well with just a c::l.. hint of rain, but by the time the .... < • • 42 IeCOnd motOl staned, we had several 'ftek'i wonh of rain dumped on lI.I all at once. The 125cc PrIlIstal'ted out the day. Duane Morris (Yam), Robnt Klemp (Hon), Stacy Thornton (Kaw) and Jack McGill (Yam) led around the first loop. Running 15th and 16th wereJim Anderson (Yam) and Robb Manning (Suz), but they were not about to stay there. Up front, McGill got in trouble early and wound up with a DNF. Thornton took over second as he and Klemp chased Morns but at the halfway mark, Klemp was running hard to stay in front of Andenon and moved briefly back up to the number two spot. Manning came pall Klemp a couple of lapl later for third behind the duel between Morris and Anderson for the lead. With only two laplleft, Morris got a little out of shape in the whoopl and stalled in the next tum. Anderson was 10 close he had to stop, too, and when they got moving again, Manning was on top of them. Bad in the woods, Morris went down again and dropped to fifth behind Thornton and Klemp. Anderson stayed just barely in front of Manning to the flag. In the second moto, some riders had problema with their riding and all had problema with the weather. It rained so hard they had to watch how large a breath they took or they might inhale a whole lnoot full of rain and spent forever pushing up dailies. Andenon got only clean water in his face as he led wiR to wire. Gary Harkleroad (Yam) ran second for a third of the moto then dropped it. Rich Bragg (Yam) was really gassing it in sixth when he took a spectacular bail off for all to see. Morris inherited second when Harkleroad went down, but Klemp took Oft!" a lap later. His poaition was Ibon-lived, too, because Manning had made his way through the pad to take over for the last half. Morris held fall at third and Steve Corcoran (Yam) put Klemp bad to fifth in the late laps. Andenon was back to lead the flJ"lt 2SOcc Pro race all the way. Corcoran and Bob Buffaloe (Yam) paraded around behind hitn the wbole moto. The mud diacouraKed half the field before they staned the second race. When the pte dropped Buffaloe, Rob Watilo (Yam) and Anderson led off. In one lap, Andenon was in front and Buffaloe in IeCOnd where they stayed to the flag. Corcoran moved up third for molt of the moto. In the Open PrIll, Monte Mitchell (Mai) led the first moto for threefounhl of the race while Rowdy Blasdell (Hus) chipped away at his compoaure. The chase barely got staned in the IIeCOnd round before Blasdell'munched his tranny. The first Open Intermediate moto couldn't have been c10Ier for mOlt of the race. Rod Powell (Yam) led and Rick WyIder (Kaw) and Rid Hewit (Yam) traded apotI behind hitn a couple of titnes as the three went around .. if they _ attached until they tangled in a comer. Hewit was going again quickly enough to resume the chase, but Wylder took a while to relr.indle the fue. On the final lap, Hewit was able to put a wheel in front of PoweD but upped over again. PoweD didn't brave the elementl for the IIeCOnd round and Hewit took the win. Results PEE WEE: 1. lily _ lVom!; 2. ..MIf Doily lVom/; 3. INa _lVom!. _ JR: 1. Glom _ISuzl; 2. Henry Corbin 1M IKMI: 3. Scrambles season at Sand Hili Ranch By Sally Sideliner BRENTWOOD, CA, MAR. 6 Another scrambles season is underway at Ten Anderson's Sand Hill ranch .md track conditions were perfect Friday evening. The Combined Expens class put on a good show for the heat and the main. Gary Johnson's Maico (Open Expen) took a tremendous holeshot followed by Dave Faria from Concord Yamaha. Soon to be on Gary's rear tire was Kimo Casey (250 Yamaha) from Concord's Supercycle, riding his first Expen scrambles. An inside pass on the back comer gave Kimo the ed~ and a second poaition for the mam event. At the drop of the flag in the main, johnson and Faria again shot to the front and led the pack through the sweeper. Faria continued to gain momentum and a second place dual began between Kimo and Jerry Brandt. An inside pass by Brandt on the lall lap gave Faria the Open Expen win and Jerry Brandt the first 250cc Expen. Dennis Roloff, alao of the Supercycle team, did a lot of manuevering from a lut place stan to take second behind Terry Smith's Yamaha in 125cc Novice. Terry maintained the lead throughout the main, but Roloff worked up to second, only to slide out and fmd hitnaelf almOlt last again. Thank goodness for the long lapl at SHR as he was able to work up to Iecond and take the checker. SHR IICrlImbles are every Friday at 7 p.m. sharp. • Results 80 EX: 1. C... _ (K.wl. 80 NOlI: 1. Jeff $eneman aeems a bit discouraged, but It's only his first race. Williams a giantkiller at TERA HS By Ed Day MUSKOGEE, OK, MAR. 8 Kenny WilJiams gassed his PEl75 Suzuki to the overall victory in the Tulsa Enduro Riders Association two-hour hare scrambles today. This was the last chance for riders to race crOll country before Tulaa's Two-Day Q!1alifier. Many riders hoping to get tuned up for the coming IIea80n found the mud a little too much, though. Deep ruta on many pans of the course required a keen eye to pid a good line. The 0-200cc clus ltarted first with Kenny WilliatDI and Ricky Pitta blasting away from the dead engine ltan_ These two ran a very clOle race with Pitta holding fint for mOlt of the race. But WilliatDI was not sleeping and put on a charge in the final 50 minutes to move into first in his clus and overall. Staning one minute behind the anall bikes were the 2SOcc bikes. Rusty Hadler on a KTM grabbed the lead and held it halfway through the flJ'St lap until tangling with Huaqva~. mounted Boyd Bus. B_ was gomg for a pall in a muddy section which put Hadler on the ground and Bus in the lead. Bus' lead was shan-lived. though, as he centerpunched a rock throwing hitn over the ban and out of contention. Wtth the front-runners having pro!>lmea, Jim Vaughn, riding a KLX250 for McAlester Kawualr.i, moved into the lead. Riding one of his flJ'St crOll country races, Vaughn misled the start by 50 aeeonda or 10. After leading for two lapl, he Ita11ed in a deep rut, talr.ing much time to get free and finished third. Hackler came back to claim first and Jeff Ausmll.l rode his Husky to second. TodaY'1 races featured a combined Novice c1UI which raced for one hour. Derek Owens rode hisl25cc Kawasaki to a victory against lIOItte ltiff competition from the large bikes. For those who were ltalled out on the course, things did not look too good.
