in. third this ti.me also w~ile Williams,
HI5e and Watilo battled It out behind
the leaders. Michlitseh took his DG
Kawasaki to within striking distance,
but Prauss held onto the lead until the
two Nati?na! riders reach~ the doubles
~here Mlchlitseh made his move, clearmg both and inheriting the lead much
to Prauss' surprise.
Whelchel made a costly mistake letting Williams and Hise by to lose third
place. Michlitseh and Prauss again
stretched out the lead as Williams
began to close space between himself
and Prauss. Michlitseh put in another
superb ride going I-I for the overall
win and first money as Prauss went 2-2
for second and Williams' 4-5 was good
for third place pay.
.In exciting Open Pro action, Mitch
KIrkpatrick (Gresham Suz/Hus) made
his long drive payoff as he took
the wins. At the stan, Kent Reynolds
(Far West Kaw) took command with
j~ jordan (Yam of Springfield) and
~kpatrick following.
Kirkpatrick
dIdn't have following in mind as he
reeled in both with a good pass on the
double jumps. jordan took Reynolds
fo.r seco~d by. the halfway point as
Klrkpatnck WIdened the gap on his
comrades, taking an uncontested win
over jordan and Reynolds.
Second outing, Kirkpatrick put his
450 ~usky to the front of the pack
dazzbng the spectators with his wideopen style. jordan and Reynolds banged
b~rs with each other many times, but
KIrkpatrick was disappearing quicltly.
jord,,:n soon got by Reynolds for good
and It seemed that Kirkpatrick suddenly slowed as if to say, "Hey guys,
where are you?" but still hung on to
the lead for the win and a I-I bliu for
the overall payoff. jordan went 2-2
and Reynolds had a 5-5 for third.
aboard a 1981 Suzuki Floater, which
was by far the trickest 125 at Territorial Raceway, located in a farming
community nonh of E~t:. Spangler
wasn't the only rider to
. the demolition award as Tim Michlitseh took
~ DG Kawasaki support ride to victory
m 250~c Pro and Mitch Kirkpatrick
took his Husky to the Open Pro wins.
In devastating 125cc Pro action, a
large field of riders were on the line
and ready to roar. Loch Names (Yam
of Springfield) pulled the holeshot folI?wed by Joe Spangler (Eugene Suz),
JIm Wiant (Yam), Mike McCormick
(Yam suppan), Clay Light (Teamjesusl
Gresham Suz), Richie Earle (Gresham
Suz) and Rod Keller (also Suzuki
mounted). Spangler and Names bexan
trading paint for the lead and neither
backed off. Spangler made a dive for
the lead but ended up nearly bailing
off, still holding off the advances of
Wiant and McCormick. The track was
looking very good by now as the fog
burned away and some nice lines were
being established; lap times were real
fast. Names held off Spangler's dives
while
Wiant
took
third
and
McCormick fourth as Wayne Church
