The I25cc Intermediate class was also divided into two divisions with S5 entrants on the day. Dennis Hulen (Yam) swapped wins in the fint division with Vince McMahan (Yam) but Hulen's second moto win combined with his second place moto one score was good enough for the overall. Following Hulen and McMahan was Yamaha-mounted Gary Depillo's S-S. Ron Lechien (Yam) turned in a perfect score I-I to win the top honon in division two_ A fine 2-S score by Louie Franco (Yam) was good for second place ride with Jack Greenberg (Suz) third. Overall series winner in the 500cc Junior class. Peter Harrison (Yam) continued his winning ways with a I-I score. Harrison outlasted Kenny Noland (Yam) and Jim Carlson (Yam) for the top position. . Curtis Cannon takes first money win at Corona TT/HM By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA, FEB. 14 Valentine's Day may be a day for sweethearts but it was also a day when a lot of very go fast riders decided to go racing and a night for old friends who dusted off their bikes and had another go at it. Pete Hames. sporting his new pro number, was the big winner of the night as he rode three and won three. The first blood drawn was the Open Money TT and it was a wire to wire romp. Off behind Hames was Bobby Sanders with Chris Cannon in the third spot and Ron Arlt in fourth. It took four· laps before Cannon could find the chink in Sanders' armor but it was enough for him to squeeze into second, Two laps later Arh did the same thing. With time running out the positions were set with Hames first, Cannon second and Arlt third. The 250cc Money half mile was the second c1ass to fall to the Hames on- slaught. Again it was Hames off on top aboard his Jack Danneberg-tuned Kawasaki. In second aboard another Kawasaki, prepared by Santa Ana Kawasaki, was Ross Klatt. These two proved to be the ones to catch as they separated from the rest of the 12-rider field and had their own thing going. In third off the line was Jimmy Rosa with Terry Singleton in founh. On the third lap Cunis Cannon got around Singleton to take over fourth. Darren Hulben didn't have a great stan but worked his way into the top five on the sixth lap and on the eighth lap made a kamikaze move that slipped him into third with two laps to go. He was able to hang in there to collect the third with Hames and Klatt a solid I- 2. The Open Money half mile was the final jewel in Hames' triple crown. As usual it was Hames breaking out on top with Bobby Garabedian second and Bobby Sanders thid. By the second lap Steve Karsten had moved from fifth to third as Sanders swapped places with him. Three more laps went by before Karsten slipped under Garabedian and moved into the second spot with a shot at Hames, who was doing a remarkable job keeping his 500 Yamaha ahead of the big Harleys. Hames had managed to put enough distance between himself and the rest of the field and even though Karsten had five laps it wasn't enough and he had to settle for second with Garabedian third. It'was the younger Cannon, Curti., that collected his first dough at Corona with his win in the 250cc Money TT_ Curtis got the holeshot but it was short-lived as Ross Klatt took over the front running spot with a pass through the dogleg turns. Jimmy Rosa had been in third at the start but Mike Hale took care of him to move to third. Klatt held the lead by a slim margin until the fifth lap when Cannon came fighting back and reclaimed his front running spot and Klatt got a bit of a ""are as Hale moved into the second spot and the white flag came out. With one lap between Cannon and his first money win, the youngster from Norco played it cool and brought it home. With one turn between him and the second spot, Hale went down and had to watch Klatt and Rosa go by to claim the place and show spots. • Results TT 125 NOY: 1. Brian Runyan IYami; 2.
