Thirty members of the Old
Timers showed up at the Dunes
to race the International track.
There was a slight mist at practice but wben mota one arrived it had
started to rain. A full rain had set in
before mota two and along with rain
comes mud! So we had a day of mud,
wet sand and all that kind of fun.
Hying around with all kinds of skill
was Blackie Lewis of Masters class.
Rain and mud were just a minor inconvenience as he rode away with both
wins. Dan Sanchez was another winner
with his second place win in mota one.
Riding a new YZ465. Bob Millner did
all right too. with his third place win.
Second place winner in mota two was
claimed by Tom Widick and Sanchez
was there to declare the third place.
Expert George Spearing shot into
the lead in mota one and held the lead
until Lou Sorenson took over. Sorenson then took this lead to the finish for
that first place win. Gerry Hutchinson
took the second place win. Buzz
Moeller followed Hutchison in on his
Husky for third. The second malo was
when Dick Mosley took that prized
fmt place win. Hutchison was in again
with a second place win and Moeller
repeated his earlier performance with
another third place win.
Amateur Ron Clawson wrapped up
first place wins in both motos. This
was no easy feat as it was raining heavily
by the second mota and track conditions made survival very difficult.
Hal Grady also came through all the
gook like a true champ and took a
second place win. John Webb crossed
over in third position. The Sttond
mota saw Gabe Guiterrez with Sttond
place and Hal Grady taking third.
Novice Bob Alloy wrapped up both
motos. Gene Uebelhardt finished the
first mota with a good second place
win. Larry Calderon took third despite
a crash while in first place. Sam
Avoian took the fourth place win.
Calderon got the holesbot in mota two
and placed second.
Uebelhardt
followed Calderon in with a third
place win. John Turdo. all newly
repaired after a broken arm, blasted
his way into fourth.
