Suddenly, EUTeluJ (I have found it). That's the California State motto you know . I want to vote for Bob Hayes, and I don't live in Los Angeles, but I know what to do. I made out a penonal check to Bob Hayes for City Council and mailed it off to Bob's campaign headquarters at 1!189 Osborn, Suite 4, Arleta, CA 91!!1, and I have cast my vote for Bob Hayes. So how about it people? How about supporting those who are willing to do something about OUT problems? I support Bob Hayes because he isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in, and he isn't afraid to stand up for the rights of you and I. . Bob is familiar with the outdoor reo creation needs of the people here in southern California and in Los Angeles. We need Bob Hayes, and those like him, and we can start voting today by sending checks to campaign funds. Someday when your grandchildren ask, "Hey Grandpa, tell me what it was like wben you use to be able to ride dirt bikes?" will you have enough guts to tell tbern that tbe reason they can't ride is because you sat on your ass way back when and did nothing. Well, you can do something now, this minute, by making your check payable to the Bob Hayes Election Committee and mailing !t to 1!189 Osborn, Suite 4, Arleta, CA 9US1, and maybe you will sleep a little better tonight knowing that you have at least taken some action. The free ride is over, and now is the time to take a stand, to fIght, or to someday face the stares of disbelief from your grandchildren, and from future generations. . Gee, I slept good last night. First, to the "rowdies" who gather annually to the rear areas of the streets surrounding the fair facilities: Thanks a lot for your "macho" displays of asininity on two wheels. I'm really impressed by your d~nken, ~untless displays of drag racmg, pubhc lewdness, and sheer idiotic measures you go through to uphold the flag of "outla~" in the Columbus area. Never mmd that in the past three years alone, members of your fraternal brother· hood of bozos have been killed, arrested, etc. due to your antics. But I do mind your robbing the poor kids of Franklin County of a chance for clothing and assistance. I do mind that such a great race as the Newsies half mile was robbed of a chance to reach 50 wonder· ful years of operation. I do mind your attempts to destroy AMA racing and deprive Ohio's line people of a Winston Pro Series National. Again, thanks a lotI Second, to the Winston Pro Series ' fans acl'Olll the nation: It's perfectly clear, as Mike Kidd and Men Lawwill said in the anicle that we must do something or the whole schedule could indeed by ruined by the hands of rowdies. It's hard to pick a stance, I know. No one wants to get involved or risk persona1 injury. Yet a palliYe, non· violent approach is not going to cut it. Remember that the same sort of drunken aJICS are responsible for the death of David Jones at Louisville bst summer. Please. before you leave for a National talk up what you may have to do in tbe event you're confronted with rowdies. Don't just say, "I'll leave that to security." We all have seen bow those "rent·a·cops" operate - stand around in clusters, nunda back home in bed, and that total look of apathy spread ear to ear. Just pay me my money and let me go home. Don't ask me to actually work, or police a damn thing. We C4n't rely on these sorts. We have to police ourselves. If you see someone getting out of hand, sense the early warning signs and act! Get the rowdy off the premises one way or an· other. Finally, I think it's rather unfair the way the Charity Newsies group can· celled the '81 running of the race without giving the AMA prior notifIcation. I had always thought of the Newsies organization as dedicated, professional people. This stinks of utter lack of professionalism, and stinks of lack of efforts to auempt an under· standing of the real problem, and of making moves to confront it. It's all so easy to just rip it all up and forget it entirely. I, for one, am not going to just ~ the Columbus Half Mile. I hope there are others who feel the same way. ED L. DOERING Milwaukee, WI Speedway programmes I am an English speedway fan who has been interelited in American speedway riders and tracks ever since th~ likes of Rick Woods, Scott Autrey and Sumner McKnight fIrst came over to England to ride in the early '70s. I am really interested in tbe ilI·fated speedway leagues in the USA of the '70s. Could you please tell me where I can get some of the programmes of some American league matches and team line·ups, and programmes of national championships? I have tried lIeVeI'a1 places in the United Kingdom without luck. I am willing to pay for any items. May stateside speedway prosper in 1981.
