.naeta- Northern California-Northern Nevada-Oregon-Washington-Idaho-Utah-A i led the entire moto. Williams took a nasty looking fall right after the start, but was able to remount and finish the race. Mattheisen followed Jansen to the finish for second with Price placing third. The 125cc Intermediate class is the unanimous winner of the ''I'm glad I'm not in that class" award. For those riders who survive the start and first few turns, the racing is very fierce. Loch Names usually does very well in this class and, in fact, he won the fust moto. But in the second moto, Loch had problems from the time the gate dropped until the flag dropped. One of Loch's crashes sent him into the only water puddle on the whole Clarks Branch facilityl This water hole could actually be called a lake as Loch's Valley Cycles Yamaha was almost submerged. Another unidentified rider crashed three times in the same comer! There were some riders who did have a good moto, though, because. Terry Baker rode to a first with Kent Egli 'placing second. The quote of the day was given by Old Timer Jeff Hensler. Jeff pulled-a giant holeshot in the second moto and was going so fast, and was so surprised, he slipped up in the third corner. Later in the pits, Jeff was asked how it felt to get the holeshol. It was quite occurrence for Jeff, and this might have been his first holeshot. Jeffsmiled b.een his first holes hot. Jeff smiled widely and said "Boy. it sure was quiet out therel" Results 125 PRO: 1. Roy Davis (Yam); 2. Ca<"" Lund (Yam); 3. Dan _oeld (Yaml. 3. 250 PRO:_ (Yaml. IKawl; 2. Ray Price IMai); _ 1. Routine returns for Wiggi.., Schlag atGSIRMX By Bill Spencer SONOMA, CA,JAN. 11 It was the start of a new year at Golden State Raceway, but it was the same old routine for some of the regular riders with former District 36 number one rider Dean Wiggins returning to the winner's circle along with num.ber two plate holder Joey Schlag. Wiggins rode the Petaluma Cycle Center 490 Mega 2 Maico to both Open Expert moto wins while Schlag did likewise in 250cc Expert for Cycle Riders Supply and KTM. A new winner was Chris Ladd taking the Pacific Racing Ent. Yamaha to the 125cc Expert double feature. Ron Combs had to come from behind in the second moto to pass Berkeley White- for the second on his B &. T Kawasaki. White and Pete Langley swapped spots in each moto with White third overall in fn-,n. n~ Langley, Eddie Brown and Gary Hutto. A real battle for the Old Timer Expert class went on in both motos between Ernie Cabral and Jim Saitone. Both are shop owners in Petaluma and the two way over 40 riders swapped the lead throughout the day with Cabral passing just one more time for the overall. Dave Howell took the 100cc portion while crazy Lorraine Caravich bounced off a few fences for the Powder Puff win. Kevin lacovoni and Wiley Craig paired together scores of 2-2 and 3-3 for the overall fust and second in 125ccJunior, but it was a real free-forall in both motos. Tom Dalziel led the entire first moto on the Concord Yamaha, but was out on the start of the second round. Shane Gu.rnsey did all the leading in that round and came off with third overall at 5-1 after a first rou.nd crash that had him going for second. Brett Cahors had himself set up for the overall with a good pass in the second moto for second, but stalled and then clipped a fence to finish founb with a 4·6. Joey Schlag had to gas it up in the first round of 250cc Expert as Pete Langley rode a good show, leading four laps until the KTM support rider moved on by for the first round win. Joey barely made the start of round two for the Cycle Riders Supply guys with a slight problem, cured by Partsin-the- Pits' Gary Hutto. He led the first two laps over Langley and Billy _Leonhart and then stopped for a hole. Langley and Leonhart had a good dice for six laps with Billy fmally getting the lead, but the fast-paced number two rider in D-36 MX reeled the pack in and passed back for the lead and a double win with four laps to go. Leonhart proved such an able competitor that Paul Cahors picked him up for the Lillie/Cahors Racing Team and he will get a new 250 Yamaha for the upcoming Natipnals. Langley had the reverse score for the third over Mike Miller and Bob Davis making for quite a Yamaha show. Dean Wiggins has not been racing of late, looking for some new scooters and when the new Maico came along, he got on it and didn't look like he had been off for four months. Riding for Jim Saitone's Petaluma Cycle Center, Red Line, ND and Tsubaki, the former Blue Plate number one took complete charge and 'rode off with two moto wins in fine style. Phil Douglas proved an able competitor chasing Dean in round one and then leading him on the Trick Cycle/South City Cycle Maico. Just past the halfway point in round two, Wiggins made the pass and rode off to another big win. The next event at Golden State will be Feb. 15 with the original scheduled' Jan. 25 event postponed until later in the year. • Results 125 EX: 1. Chrio Ladd (Yaml; 2. Ron Combo IKIW); 3.
