/ thern Hey.d••Southern Call riding for Yamaha International, and Willy Simons, aboard a Honda. The first moto saw Simons take charge, holding White to second. With Yamaha rider Bill Hagen in third, the front runners ran their own race and left Greg Taylor, riding for Van Nuys Cycle in fourth, holding off Brian Chereshkoff, Dave Haugh and Brand Johnson. Before the moto drew to a close, Chereshkoff took over the fourth place slot followed by Johnson, leaving Taylor to fend off Haugh. When the finish line loomed into sight, Simons led the way with White close behind. . When the machines roared to life for the second time, White and Taylor drag raced to the top of the hill with White taking command. Once more, a duel to the end went down between White and Simons for the win. With Hagen secure in third, Simons was breathing fire mere inches behind White. When the action drew to a close, it was White taking home top dollar for the day, Simons snatching second place loot and third overall going to Hagen. The second division of 250cc Beginners had a personality all its own. A dust bowl on the far side of the track snatched rider after rider. Those who made it through chose some strange lines, bike after bike spinning out and making circles in the middle. Racers emerged from the dust, like ghosts from a World War II battle. In the lead for both motos was Rob Baver who fought to hold Bob Carney to second and James Hohman in third to the end of tbe first moto. The second moto found Baver again up in front. Carney fought with Mike Q.uimet1e moto-Iong for second and ended tbe day with second overall. Hohman finished tbe moto in fourth, good for third overall honors. After his victory in the 250cc Pro class, Mark White came to the Open Pro race, ready and waiting for another victory. The first time out Steve Hutchens grabbed the holeshot, only to eat it off the big drop-off and surrender his lead to White. He found Tracy Oswell riding shotgun and Bill Hagen, burning up the track and moving on into third. Hagen was out for the win and passing Oswell, set his sights on White. With lapped riders all over the track, White was held back and Hagen, in a sudden burst of power, moved on by for the moto win. The second time around, Kirk S[UrgeOn led the charge and fought to hold off White and Hagen. White and Hagen made their respective moves and took over first and second, pushing Sturgeon to third. Sturgeon fought to the end to hold off Oswell but by the end of the race, Oswell made his move and clinched the third place slot. White ended the day with yet another class victory, Hagen emerged with second place money and Oswell took third overall. Results eo NOV: 1.
