Glover planned his move and passed Grossi, Johnson and WOIick, reeled in Tripes and went for the lead. Tripes was having none of it and shut the door on Glover. The two Superbowl of MotOCTOll double winnen picked the pace up to world clasa status, leaving the third·place battle far behind. Glover finally established himself in the lead as Tripes' bike went belly·up with two laps remaining. WOIick picked up the number two spot ahead of Grossi, Johnson and Staten. Jennings stayed within sight tbe fint half of the moto and occasionally closed tbe gap with Glover. By tbe halfway point, Glover wu safe with a 10'second lead and Jennings was cruising in second.
