Jim Bob Edwards and Maples both jumped on Brooks' tail knowing they had little time to make a move. Stiekierke jammed in for some fast action as he passed both Maples and Edwards for second. Maples, not happy holding third, took his chances and moved by Stiekierke for second. Keeping the ball rolling, Maples shot by Brooks also, giving him the win and the overall victory. MADERA, CA,JAN. 10 Lake Madera hosted the second round of the DG Golden State Series with nearly 500 Amateur riders showing up to test their skills on the one-time-a-year course, James Klida (Yam) proved that consistency and speed could put him on top of the 125cc Junior Divison 3 clasS. As the pack got underway, Dean Davis jumped onto an early lead and had no intention of letting it go. Klida and Bryan Curtis both shot harcYat Davis' tail trying to overtake him. Soon, Curtis passed Klida and was looking down Davis' neck. Within the next lap, Davis also had fallen victim to Curtis' rampaging charge. Curtis began to pull an overwhelming lead while DaVis and Klida fought for second. Robin Galvez (Suz) was hotly working his way through the pack as he moved by both Davis and Klida for second. Klida also moved up shortly and had third spot nailed down. Curtis took first followed by Galvez and Klida, As the pack shot out of the gate for the second time, Roger Guzman rose to the head of the pack with only one thought on his mind. The motos had been cut to four laps due to lack of time and the riders were tapped out looking for the checkered. Klida and Todd Job (Hon) were both taking every chance they could to pass Guzman. Guzman ran hard for most of the race till lap three when he began to fade. Soon Klida was running first with Job following in second. Galvez pulled a repeat o{ his fi rst moto pass streak and moved from fourth to sec- ond. Klida took tirst giving him first overall for the day. Galvez finished second and Job brought home third. The 125cc Intermediate Division 1 group picked up the pace a bit with Gary Curtis (Suz) taking top honors. Bruce Jackman (Kaw) started the day out right by snagging an early moto lead. David Holmes (Kaw) and Curtis both put out everything they had to keep up with Jackman's lead. Troy Barazoto was working frantically through the pack after suffering a mid-pack start. Barazoto quickly moved past Curtis and then on to get by Holmes. Barazoto fought hard to make up the distance between him andJackman, making up lots of ground until the last lap when he went down letting Curtis take over second spot. Gary Bowman pulled in to finish third with Jackman the wire-to-wire victor. In the shortened la ps of the second moto, Curtis shot away from the pack hoping to steal the limelight. Bowman and Jackman rode all out on Curtis' tail, knowing they had little time to pass. Craig Cable (Yam) soon got into the action and moved by Jackman for third. It was an all-out sprint for the finish, but places remained the same with <;:urtis taking the win, Bowman and Cable taking second and third. Clinton Mapfes (Yam) changed the pace of the race by putting the power of his 250 down to take back-to-back wins in the 250cc Junior Division 3 class. Mike Powell, Jimmy LaMaack (Kaw) and Gerry Johnson put an early lead on the rest of the pack as they charged hard through the opening lap. LaMaack soon took command as Maples moved through the pack and into second, Maples was quick to keep his charge going and moved by LaMaack for the lead. Soon, Phil Stiekierke (Yam) made his way into the frontrunners and took third position. Maples held on to his lead to take the ~oto vi!=tory, LaMaack took second and Stiekierke took third. 60 JR: 1.
