lLeft) Staten'. 1341 3-8 ride netted him fOW1h behind Shultz'. IiOOcc: wins. IRlght) Broc Glover won 2SOcc Pro and was second in Open. Breker dropped from the race with a stuck throttle. Once again, the race for the lead was a three-rider affair with Jennings bringing up the number four position. "I got a pretty poor start and was off the pace for a while, but I kept them in sight," noted Jennings after the moto. "The Husky is working really good ." Glover kept the pressure on Shultz for the second half of the moto while Reid cruised in third. Tripes worked up to futh at the checkers as Staten picked up sixth and Harper held on to seventh. Rhyan dropped to 10th with mechanical problems. Glover picked up the second place share of the $4000 purse as Jennings finished third overall, Staten fourth and Tripes rounded out the top five. 250cc Pro Juan Benavidez managed to get his foot stuck in the rear wheel of Andy Guth's Yamaha on the first lap of the 250cc Pro race bringing Out the red flag as the bike was disassembled to free the hapless Benavidez. Both riders made the restart which had Kawasaki support rider Robert Reisinger taking the holeshot ahead of Honda teamster Ron Sun, Glover, Yamaha rider Rick Johnson and Reid. . Johnson fell in the finish turn allowing Reid to move in on Glover as Sun and Reisinger both dropped back. Staten moved into third as Glover and Reid pulled away from the field. Reisinger, Yamaha rider Mark Lawrence and Marty Tripes battled for fourth with Lawrence taking over the number four spot just before a flat front tire ended his ride. Johnson and "Lavender" Larry Wosick forced their Yamahas into battle for fifth as Reisinger secured fourth and Tripes faded with handling problems. Glover held the lead at the finish with Reid second followed by Staten, Reisinger, Johnson, Wosick and Benavidez. Sun nailed the holeshot as the second moto started, but Reid wasted little time in taking the front position away. Glover tailed Reid as they completed the first lap, soon found an opening and moved up to challenge when Sun slipped to third. Glover took over the lead and Reid tried to regain the lead at the bottom of Webco hill only to bail off hard enough to end his ride. With Reid out, Glover was able to cruise to the win, but the battle for second was fierce as Gary Semics powered his Yamaha up to duel with Reisinger, Sun, Johnson, Craig Gormley on a Yamaha and Suzuki rider Clint Hardick. Semics placed runner-up at the checkers with Johnson third and Reisinger fading to seventh with a 'f1at tire. Johnson picked up second overall behind Glover as Reisinger grabbed the third-place money, Semics fourth and Hardick fifth. 125cc Pro Pre-race favorite "Radical" Ron Turner disappointed no one as he launched his water-cooled Suzuki Floater into the lead at the start of moto one. Yamaha riders Scott Burnworth and Erik Kehoe gave chase, but Radical Ron was in control the entire moto, finishing with a 10·second lead and turning the second fastest lap times of the day behind only Shultz. Burnworth and Kehoe battled for the rest of the moto as Danny "Magoo" Chandler tried to overcome a bad start and move into contention. With two laps remaining, he bailed off hard and remounted to finish 17th as Burnworth finished second, Kehoe third, Yamaha rider Mike Tripes fourth and La Habra Yamaha rider Mike Beier placed fifth. A massive pile·up in turn three of the second moto snared many of the top riders and left Turner working up from dead last with prelZeled handlebars. "Every time I turned left I'd hit the clutch with my leg'" exclaimed Turner later. Chandler motored to the second race win as Suzuki's George Holland picked up second. Overall, Holland was the victor with second place going to Yamaha rider Scott Manning. Tripes finished third. Yamaha rider A.J. Whiting fourth and Beier fifth. Chandler took sixth with a 17-I score. • Results MASTER: 1. Alan Olson (Mail; 2. Larry Rodgers; 3. Saltzman (Hus). OT: 1. J. McCormick; 2. M. Olson; 3. B. Crosta. 500 PRO: ,.
