Come in and talk with Mr. Ito, former Suzuki Engineer and Zen Masters in the art of motorcycle maintenance. STOllE HOURS: MONDAY-FRIDAY 9 to 7, r-~ SATURDAY9to5 PASADENA SUZUKI 2900 E. Colorado Blvd Pasadena, CA 91107 (213) 795-4129 I ,SUZUKI I Terry Vance agrees, By designing ignition systems that offer dependability and high performance, we're giving entire generations of riders'all the revolutionsper-minute they've been missing. And in just over five years, Martek has become the undisputed leader in electronic ignition systems that cover all popular bikes. Pros like Terry Vance know that a dependable ignition can mean the difference between winning and losing. That's exactly why he switched to Martek. Riders also appreciate our 3-year "no-hassle" guarantee. It simply means that we back up .~ Martek. I ... to have. t.ck.up 5ystrrn. Now I an COI.mt on one rr1iab1e system." Again. the desert brigade turned out in a big group; club colors present were Checkers, 4-Aces, Prospectors and Din Diggers ... neat! These guys have to be seen to be believed; they take it all seriously inspite of having knobbies on their bikes and resembling people on water beds when they'd land after the jump and float up and down on those l·o,n-g suspensions. The club tried to line up three rows of desert people in the Open class, but a small rebellion on the part of the scorers convinced them that wasn't the way to go, so they pulled one row off. FiTSI heat and overall winner was Steve Fortune who has spent more time on that track as a now retired pro than some of his competition has spectating it for 10 years. Right behind Fortune both times was Doug Wabiszewski while Rob Pfetzing came in for third in the main. Our favorite bike for the night was Bob Riggs on his Matchless ... so if you wondered what 'lOx was, and you're too young to remember those Matchboxes, now you know. The en, gine sound kept us glowing all evening. If you were in the pits and noticed a bit of confusion from time to lime, there was. The announcer didn't get a good list of riders and the club knows the turnaround from the heat to the main was too quick. but it's a big job to run a race like that, especially when a couple of the flagmen just faded away and didn't tell anyone they were splitting. The three Pro classes ran twice. In the 250cc class, Bud Carroll took the lead straight off heat one and kept it, but behind, Ben Meyer and Jimmy Rosa were giving the crowd quite a show. Rosa pulled up to Myer and went over the jump with him side by side, dropped back a fraction, but shot into the second spot in the left-hander Onto the back straight. Second heat. Carroll got behind on the start and started chasing them. Meyer had the lead first, then Rosa tOok it away, but Carroll was closing fast. He got around Meyer and given less than one more lap, he'd have had, Rosa we think. In 500cc Pro, Rod Sullivan fended off Steve Karsten and Rocky Robinson in the first go. but lost out to Chris Cannon in the second. The final run'down was Cannon, Robinson, Sullivan and Karsten. For the Open class, it was Tommy WallOn (2-1), then Jim R~a (4-2), Rob Morrison (S-S) and Mike MinDing (1-6). That first heat got real exciting between Mike Minnig and Rob Morrison until Tommy Walton arrived up to them and took away second from Morrison. Results Martek Products, 3609 W.
