NOV. 15 Steve Wise took a little while to' figure out what was going on in his first time racing "motocross" indoors on ice, but managed to 20 pull off tlK: win in the main by beating Rid< Blackwell. In practice and the ftnt moto, Wise looked pretty good. But, in th~ round TObin system, each of the five TOl\nds qualifies the faster riders with each other for the next ~d. . ' In TOUnd two. it was Blackwell and 'Steve Stackable up front followed by Tom johnson, Ricky Glazer and Wise in last. Wise's fifth, pair of seconds and two wins qualified him fifth for the main. however. Blackwell went undefeated during the five round robin motos. Kathy Holman WitS one of the 15 riders invited. Although she didn't fare too well on tlK: ice, she did have the guts to challenge one of the guys that gave IK:r a gende push out of the first tum dUTing one of her motos to a match raCe. In that, Kathy got the hOIeshot and was never challenged with the crowd cheering their approval. TIK: main was the most heavily CODtested main in the history of moto· cross on i.,., to date. Blackwell had the holeshot and looked to be the sure win· ne!' until Wise caught him, putting a IIlilIO'e on Blackwell that made the crowd of ~oo roar. Wise went on to win fol· lowed by Blackwell, Tom johnson, Stacka.b~ and Glazer. money in both the 125 and 250cc Expert classes. The competition was stiff and in the 125cc Expert class, Rakestraw piloted his red mal:hine to two first·place fin· ishes. David Jones (Suz) claimed the lead position during the first part of moto one with Randy Sullivan (Hon) and Rakestraw streaking after hi/Tl. Both passed Jones and Sullivan - in the lead - definitely knew he was being tailed. Rakestraw flew around to take first follo~ed by Sullivan, Jones and Mel Newman (Mug). The second moto, it was Rakestraw all the way! Sullivan, riding second, took a spill in a tight corner allowing Jones to pass, but managed to get going before Bob Sanford (Yam) in (our,th got to the turn. The four riders stretched their lead on the pack and finished in that-order. Again in the 250cc ~pert class Rake· straw led the first moto start to the finish with Kirk Spencer (Yam) apply· ing a great deal of pressuTe all the way, but not quite enough to get around . Nick Cordova (Yam) dominated the third position. Craig Riddle (Kaw) .. to his dismay, got a back position out of the gate, but by the third lap, had already gained five positions and by the end of the molO captured fourth. In the second moto, Rakestraw again took the lead with Mike Jones (Yam), next. Riddle pressing Jones. Next came Cordova and Dennis Hawthorne (C·A). Riddle overtook Jones who hung in there for third. Hawthorne in fifth got around Cordova and held it until the white flag lap when Cordova passed to gain fourth again. All this time. a real battle was going on for the lead. Riddle was challenging Rakestraw, and their race was indeed a crowd pleaser. Hawthorne again put the move on Cordova 10 cross fourth at the checkers. And for a dramatic finish. Riddle swept around Rakestraw 10 claim first. • Results MICRO MINI: 1. Mark Rainwater (Yaml; 2. Larry Pryor (Yam); 3. Charlie Wino (Suzl. MINI JA: 1. Jerry Benner (Suzt: 2. Ray Schel~gef (Yaml; 3.
