TEN YEARS AGO The Inter-Am Series came down to its final race at Saddleback Park and Maico's AU JOlUllOn, with the championship already locked up, went out and cleaned house all three motos anyway. Husky's Hengt Aberg rounded out the day and the season with a second, and third (fifth in series) went to Sylvain Geboers on a works Swuki. Bob GTOlISi (Hus) took top American honors on the d"y with an eighth overall, while John DeSoto (CZ), who injured ligaments during the race was taken to the hospital, took top American honors in the series' overall tally. Steve Burgess was the 250cc Expert champ, and Peter Crandall did in the one-two·fives. Bates Leathers announced a $25,000 contingency program for 1971. The top prize was $5000 for the Grand National Champion, and $1000 for the winners of the 200'mile road races at Daytona and Ontario. Contingency money was also on the line for National Championship Hillclimbs and the Trans·AMA Series. The AMA Executive Board trimmed the 1971 Grand National Championship Series from 31 to 24.
