In Expen action, Chuck "The Hulk" Dawson and Kirk Dillon piloted their "yellow birds" to the overall wins in their respective classes. Brent "Stud Duck" Carrizales (Yam) aced the competition in each of the action-filled rounds of 100cc Junior racing. Carrizales' victory didn't come easily at Wolfcreek as Mark Filler (Suz) applied heavy pressure in round one. In round two when the chips were down, the "Stud Duck" put a last lap, do-or-die pass on Filler that had the spectators and parents alike getting into the action. Max Maddox (Suz) was third in the overall column with a pair of fours as Gary Parker (Suz) managed a fourth with a g-5 effort. The morning program came to an exciting end with a "Flash Back" as Mark Humphrey took his Bultaco to consecutive moto victories on the excellent spectator circuit. Humphrey was untouchable as he gave the rest of the 250cc Novice crowd the blues when he took the win on the blue bike. David Margraves (Kaw), whose 2-g effon landed him in seco~d, looked quick on the Uni-Trak as Wayne Carnes (Yam) managed a third with Phil Easley on another "Green Meanie" in fourth. The afternoon program followed the usual track maintenance which had track conditions at 10 on a scale of one'to 10. I25cc Intermediate action was first to follow the practice sessions with "Radical" Russell Brown (Yam) still in the fast lane as he took overall honors with an excellent I-g effort. Brown's move to the Intermediate class was one of many as "Bad" Bubba Neal (Yam) also made the step when he finished with a 5-1 effort for second. Third was "The Killer," Carroll Richardson (Yam), who came back from a second round pile·up that had the race grid looking like Central Expressway in Dallas. Richardson made it a one-two-three sweep fOT Big "D" as he moved from Mini Senior into the fast lane of the I25cc Intermediate class. Fourth place in the overall column was filled by Mike Brown (Suz) who was definitely on the gas in round two as he and "Radical" Russell put on the show in second and third while "Bad" Bubba did his own thing out front. 125cc Expert action was also a classic with Chuck "The Hulk" Dawson coming across with a 2-1 punch for the overall win. In round one, "Terrible" Tim Butler (Yam) was . movin' on as he took the win with teammate Dawson in his shadow throughout the event. Third with a come-from-behind effort was Keith Davis (Hon). . In round two, Dawson moved into the lead in the middle of lap one am!. set the pace for the duration as Butler came from behind for second, Davis in third, and fourth with a pair of consistent rides was Frank Rousseau, who ended a day's work with 4-6 finishes. Kirk Dillon (Yam), in his first race back after knee problems, took con- secutive victories in the 250cc £Xpen class as an enthusiastic crowd watched. Dillon was out from in each moto from lap one to the finish as Gene Goodier (Yam) put his bike in second in each round. Scott Davis (Yam) kept the freight train in line with a pair of threes. Founh in the overall column was Dan Brasfield (Hon) with a 5-4 effon with Larry Lancaster (Suz) rounding out the top five with a 4-5 tally. Results MICRO MINI: 1. Clay Branch ISuzl; 2. Mountaineers M.e. beat the snow By Vern Westgate SMELTERVILLE, In, NOV. 9 The Mountaineers M.C.'s luck held again this year. The annual November two-man team hare scrambles was held in the balmy Silver Valley of nonh Idaho. (It got all the way up to 4 I degrees with a light drizzle and the sun even came out once.) This is the last race of the year in this area so all the die- hards came from Washington, Idaho and Montana. The entry list was made up of 40 two-man teams all running in a single, run-whatcha-brung class. The race was five la ps around an 11mile course. It had everything from logging roads to trials- type trails through the gulches and creeks. The elevation changes about 1800 feet from the start to the high points with some good climbs and well·rutted downhills to catch the banzai riders. Anyone who bails off on this course usually finds a rock or tree to help slow him down, never anything soft. Lots of wet pine needles covered the course in places to help practice those full-lock slides. The start was dead engine, Le Mans type. Watching 80 racers with boots and leathers run 100 yards looked like a flock of ducks on a hot sand beach. The real surprise was that 79 of the 80 bikes staned right off and the one reluctant one was a four-stroke_ The fITSt lap saw things get all soned out. The really intense teams got themselves together and out front where they could fight it out. The race was between the teams of Morris/ Moreland (cross country racers), Hamby/Nelson (all roundracers), Cayko/ Cruickshank (Class C racers) and Mattocks/MattJames (also Class Criders). About six more teams ran up close to these using a little more restra.int than the berzerkos up front. The laps ran about 28 minutes each and at about two hours and 20 minutes, it was Dale Morris and Chuck Moreland with the win. Tony Cruickshank and Rod Cayko were second, Ban Nelson and Jim Hamby third. • Results 1. Morris IYamllMoroland IYaml; 2. Cruickshank iYaml/Cayko (Yaml; 3. Hamby (Honl/Noloon IYam); 4.
