The two racers who shot it out were Todd Peterson and Juan Benavidez, engaging in 250cc Pro warfare. This was the final race of the four week Pro series that R.A.C.E. and several generous shops put together. The overall prize was $500 cash and the big winner was Todd Peterson. In the first 250cc Pro race Todd got out ahead and led every lap while Benavidez was in second place and still within striking distance. Then Benavidez went down on a sweeper and another rider ran over his necltl Asked how he felt, Juan replied "It hun, I thought I broke my neck'" Benavidez lost two places to Bob Marino and David Behlings. In the final race things were much smoother and Todd led it again. Marino was second for three laps until Juan scooted on by and they were in those positions tin the finish flag came out. Overall it was Peterson, Marino, Benavidez and Behlings. In the 500cc Pro class Scott Cavness got his Suzuki together and the frame didn't even crack on him. Scott edged out Benavidez and Marino for the night. Peterson raced in the 125cc Pro class and he was trying to get as many points as possible. He won the first mota over Micky Dymond of Fast Lane Racing but it turned around in the final go because Todd had a flat rear tire. Micky won it overall. Ray DeSilva was the overall winner of the 250cc Beginner race but not without having to put up a good fight with Sam Oropallo. Sam led for most of the first mota while DeSilva was in second but then they traded places. In the final mota things really got crazy. "I blew the last mota, I got the holeshot till the eighth lap. I passed him up and then he passed me up, we couldn't make up our minds whQ wanted first'" said Oropallo after it was all done. DeSilva won the last mota and Oropallo ended up in second. On the trophy list it was DeSilva, OropaHo, Mike Marek and Ricky Poner. Results 50: 1. Jaoon Collier IV....); 2. Jeff Devid IV....I; 3. Bobby Devid ISuzI. 60: 1. Richy Thoo "aldson ISuzl; 2. I Tim Lunde happens to be all time winningest Pro in Continen-' tal Moto-sports Club history, and has been racing at Ascot longer than any other Pro in the line· up as well. So it is not too likely that a new-comer is going to knock him out of the Pro money, but that very thing did happen. Ed Arnet upset Tim in both the 250 and 500cc Pro classes. Lunde took command of the first 250cc Pro mota and showed Arnet how to ride the track. Norman Nilsson was third and a little bit behind the fast top two men. Arnet got the hang of the Ascot track in the final moto and this time he showed Tim a few things. Lunde fonowed in second and couldn't get by Arnet so it was quite frustrating for him, especially since this last mota finish would determine just who would win the big money. On the cash list it was Arnet, Lunde, Danny Westergaard and Norman Nilsson. Arnet took control of the 500cc Pro dass which consisted of only five racers. Arnet stayed in front of Lunde and on the money list it was Arnet, Lunde and Shane McDonald. "Two weeks in a row - now I must be doing something right," stated Jim Kesler after winning the 500cc Inter· mediate class. These riders romped on the track at the same time that the Pros did. Jim proved to be the quickest too as he won both motos. The top five men were Kesler, Chris Jackson, Don LaFon, Monte Miller and Roland Dean. It is good to see Steve Bainter back in action. Bainter is well known for a crash that he took a month or so ago. He unloaded while hauling on a jump and that was quite a show stopperl To· night he showed up the 125cc Inter· mediate class by taking the win. Mark Harpwood beat him in the first mota but Bainter improved in the last mota for a winning 2·1 score. On the final results it came out this way: Bainter, Harpwood, Donnie Luce and Glen Roden.
