Two tor L oeey at AME Indian Dunes MX By Judy Greenberg VALENCIA. CA. SEPT. 28 The tree-shaded Shadow Glen course at Indian Dunes set the SEene for American Motocross Enterprises' Sunday races. Yama- JLl ;> ha Motor Corp. 's Tim Locey was first to the fmish line. each time out, in the 500 and 250cc Pro classes, while the DG Honda of Chris Heisser put together a pair for the 125s. American Honda suppon rider Jerry Shore led the 125cc Pros out of the first gate with International Yamaha's Steve Schmitz snagging second from Jim Simons' Simi Valley Honda. John Whelchel (Int. Yam) and Heisser tightened the gap on Schmitz, but Whelchel's engine acted up. forcing him to drop back. A heated battle brewed between Heisser and Schmtiz as they closed on Shore. Schmitz made his pass on Shore with Heisser following suit soon after. With three laps remaining, Heisser moved into the lead and stretched it out for the win. Schmitz maintained second as Willy Simons used the last lap to snatch third from Shore. Heisser shot out of the second gate and was immediately off to a sensational lead, leaving the action behind him. Mark MoscTop (Luft Rcing) occupied the early second until he was downed with bike trouble. Whelchel was next to lose second to Schmitz as he succumbed to engine failure, opening third to Willy Simons. A tight battle ensued as Simons closed on Schmitz and made a successful pass into second. Shore finished fourth. It was a wire to wire win for Locey as he ran away with the first 250cc Pro moto. Ken Zahrt held second as David Zahrt and Scott Curtis passed Jerry Martinez to fill the third and fourth spots. Bill Hagen was busy picking off riders as he worked his way from the back. When he moved in behind Curtis things got tight. Hagen used the high side of a berm for his pass and then proceeded to put Dave Zahrt behind him on the same lap. He then charged after Ken Zahrt and picked up time with each lap. but Zahrt was secure and held second. Ken Zahrt led the first few la ps of round two until Locey took over. Curtis moved up to third with Hagen finishing fourth. Brand Johnson (7-Jays) holeshot the first 500cc Pro moto and then dropped to third when the International Yamaha of Hagen and the Goleta Yamaha of Rob Rollins slipped by. Locey occupied fourth until he found his way by Johnson and proceeded to close on Rollins. A couple of laps later Rollins was behind him and his sights were on Hagen. Locey used the sand straight to take over the remaining laps. Hagen stayed right behind him to the finish. The second time it was Locey all the way with Hagen steady in second. Johnson successfully defended third from Rollins. Results 500 PRO: 1. Tim Locey (Yam); 2. Bill Hagen (Yam); 3. Brand Johnson (Vam). 500 INT: 1. Andy Richard (Yam); 2. Tom Bice (Hus); 3.
