Jorski takes two at Ponca City GNC Qualifier By Rebecca Sands PONCA CITY, OK, SEPT. 21 On a steamy hot day at Ponca City Motocross track, the dust was so heavy, hoses had to be used on the dirt at the finish line so riders could be identified. Kenny Butler commanded his Maico to two wins in the Over 50 class. A sharp, slick early corner claimed many would-be winners the entire day; this class no exception. In the first moto, Charles Magness (Mai) and Gary Drummond (Yam) challenged each other for second place. Passing under the tower, Drummond slid out and Magness finished second with Carl Brock (Mai) third. The second moto, Drummond held Onto second to the checkers with Cliff Alford (Yam) fin· ishing third, Magness fourth. Two battles were waged between Dennis Daft (Yam) and Greg Baker (Suz). Daft took a I-I victory in the IOOcc Amateur class, holding Baker to 2·2. In the 125cc Amateur class first moto, Daft took the lead with Baker chasing. The two stretched a lead on the pack with Daft finishing ahead. The second moto, Daft was again ahead. Baker was flyin' WFO and succeeded in passing and crossing the checkers first, giving him first overall. Clay Hoenshell (Yam) earned first overall in the 125cc Expert race with Alvin Myers (Yam) running a strong second. Bobby Fannon (Yam) placed third in both motos ahead of Rick Kirk (Yam) who took two fourth places. Trey Jorski (Kaw) earned first place money in both the 250cc and Open Expert race. In the Open class, Alvin Myers and Mark Dennison (Yam) worked hard to catch the flying redhead, but no go. Myers placed second, Dennison third. The second moto.
