ather. Call,.....I..Arl....... and the Indian Dune!! crowd was a lIiggie, not only due to the series piizes, gift certificates and trophies. but the race was also one of the last few chances left for competitors to qualify for the San Diego Stadium Amateur Supercross Championships on Oct. 26, Professional ranks were among the lesser of the turnouts of the night, but there were still nearly 30 of them shoot· ing for the cash in all three of the 'classes, and the winners' list was beaded by Mark White in the Open Pros, Bobby Kline in the 250s, and Willy Simons in the 125s. White's Open victory was one of his easier rides, as he swq>t both of the motos for the overall, while Brian Vargas trailed in second both rounds, ahead of Greg Torgerson. Kline ran away with a pair of moto victories in the 2505 as well. but behind him was the Puch/Budweiser· "ponsored Pudsuki of Kenny "Slim" Zahrt. Despite his lengthy list of spon· sors, Zahrt could not catch Kline in ither round, and had to settle for second overall. and a qualifying slot at San Diego. Jim Sandelbach tallied a pair of thirds for the show spot overall, and Rod Tolleson scored fourth with a pair of fifths. The most hotly·contested Pro race was the 125cc battle. Brothers Willy and Jimmy Simons went head to head in both of the motos, battling for the overall. Jimmy took the early lead in molO one and ran it all of the way to the checkers, while Willy had to come -up and work himself into the runner· up slot by moto's end. ahead of David Lynch, Jerry Shore, and Ricky Arnold. In round two, Willy took the hole· shot, and ran his lead wire 10 wire, and thus captured the overall. Brother Jimmy blew his chances for a top over· all finishing position after working himself up into third. then going down at the top of the dropoff. and falling way back. By moto's end he was in 10th, and out of any money positions. David Lynch and Jerry Shore were the 2·3 riders. both Honda·mounted, with Dave riding for BG Oils and Works Performance and Jerry riding out of the American Honda Support program. Their overall finishing positions were the same right behind DG rider Willy Simons, and rounding out the top five were John Langhammer's 6·4, and JimmySimoos'I·10. Results OPEN NOV: 1.
