Scoring at the Linnville, OH, InterAm race was a quagmire, with no
official results given the night after the
race except that Jack Penton had won
the 125cc class. Bengl Aberg (Hus)
appeared to be the winning International class rider with Me JODllOn
(Mai) second. R.11II Darnell (Hus) was
probably the top American rider.
The Trans-AMA series held its second
race the day before the Inter-Am and
it was a BSA sweep as Jeff Smith led
teammates Keith Hickman, John
~anb and Dave Nicholl in the
overall standings. Bob Thompaon
(Oss) was top American at fifth
overall.
Problems of where to ride were
discussed, as San Bernardino County
had issued an ordinance requiring
written permission of the land owner
10
ride anywhere except BLMmanaged lands. The BLM office
indicated three areas where the land
was predominantly federally-owned
- with little privately-owned land.
Thus began the herding of off-road
riders into the Lucerne Valley, R.ed
Mountain, and Shadow Mountain
areas.
