After 'riding his Honda to third Sportsman Saturday he bought a Bultaco on sale at the trial in Colorado and trucked it to Texas. There he piloted it to a one point vic· LOry over Sportsman class champion Dave Webster. Pennsylvanian Nils Montzoros was the series runnerup, followed by Keith McLau!\"hlin. The Super Senior class was topped by Tom Cullen, publisher of Northern California's Pitstop newsletter, a publication which claims circulation of 220,000 in 20 languages including Danish, Serbo-Croatian, and Greek. Super Senior champion Norm Sayler edged Art Webster by a dab for second place. Art finished the year second in the points standings while Jay Kavanaugh, Morgan's dad, earned the number three plate. The Texas ride may have been Whaley's last. American trials' incredible clean machine has been racing professional motocross in southern California since last spring. Sponsored by Husqvarna, he hopes to join the AMA National circuit in 1981. The record he leaves behind in seven years of Al'viA/NATC competition is indeed enviable. Five National Championships.
