In the early laps. Busby had the advantage. but rapidly Williams caught on, while the duo was separating from the rest of the field. But as the race wore on. so did Busby's tires and pretty soon he was sliding. leaving doors wide open in the corners. When Williams saw the slides he passed Busby, who cpuldn't do anything. They finished very close at the finish line.•It was Williams' first victory in that class. but he is the '79 AFM 600cc Superstreet cbamp. In Open GP, there was absolutely nb competition for Mark Homchick (Deus Ex Machina LTD Yam) who ~on very easily over AMA 250cc r\lovice Champ Tad Wolff on an Escargot Suzuki GSIOOO and David Busby, who for the first time was trying his hands on a Superbike (Chuck Parme's spare KZIOOO). Chuck cpuldn't race, after a spill during practice on Busby's TZ2501 Another rider who was not racing, even if he is one of the AFM's most consistent winners was Whitney Blakeslee, who was going on vacation the next day and had no intention of spoiling it with a hospital stop. The 125cc GP race saw the now usual battle between John Glover and Todd Brown, and again it was Glover on top. The 430cc Production battle went to Pat Eagan (Cycle WorldlMoriwaki I,-Ion) but he had to fight harder for that one with Larry Theobald (T&O Yam) and Martin Vogel. Theobald e'ven got in front on Eagan for one lap. but at the end Eagan won again. Open Production saw the return of Dennis Smith, who after competing on the AMA Superbike circuit with a GSI000, tried a GSllOO sponsored by Cycle Tune, Yoshimura, Bel-Ray and Nb in that class and won it over Chris Steward and Lee Fleming (Champion M/C).
