In the early laps. Busby had the advantage. but rapidly Williams caught
on, while the duo was separating from
the rest of the field. But as the race
wore on. so did Busby's tires and pretty
soon he was sliding. leaving doors wide
open in the corners. When Williams
saw the slides he passed Busby, who
cpuldn't do anything. They finished
very close at the finish line.•It was
Williams' first victory in that class. but
he is the '79 AFM 600cc Superstreet
cbamp.
In Open GP, there was absolutely
nb competition for Mark Homchick
(Deus Ex Machina LTD Yam) who
~on very easily over AMA 250cc
r\lovice Champ Tad Wolff on an
Escargot Suzuki GSIOOO and David
Busby, who for the first time was trying
his hands on a Superbike (Chuck
Parme's spare KZIOOO).
Chuck
cpuldn't race, after a spill during practice on Busby's TZ2501 Another rider
who was not racing, even if he is one of
the AFM's most consistent winners was
Whitney Blakeslee, who was going on
vacation the next day and had no intention of spoiling it with a hospital
stop.
The 125cc GP race saw the now
usual battle between John Glover and
Todd Brown, and again it was Glover
on top.
The 430cc Production battle went
to Pat Eagan (Cycle WorldlMoriwaki
I,-Ion) but he had to fight harder for
that one with Larry Theobald (T&O
Yam) and Martin Vogel. Theobald
e'ven got in front on Eagan for one lap.
but at the end Eagan won again.
Open Production saw the return of
Dennis Smith, who after competing on
the AMA Superbike circuit with a
GSI000, tried a GSllOO sponsored by
Cycle Tune, Yoshimura, Bel-Ray and
Nb in that class and won it over Chris
Steward and Lee Fleming (Champion
M/C). David Emde won the 750cc
Production race, on a GS 750.
