But have you ever heard of somebody racing on two different tracks on the same evening? Well Kyle Lewis did just tbat at Indian Dunes. Kyle raced on the Inter· national track with the big bikes and then he battled on the Mini race track. Kyle won it all on the International track in the 60cc Expert race and then won the Junior Cycle Modified class on the Mini track. He received a little competition from Marty Rickard. Rickard did not stop Lewis, though, and he became the overall winner with two wins. John Mathews has been tearing them up at Ascot every Wednesday night. Just lately he has been coming back to the Friday night program and racing in the Junior Cycle Modified In· termediate race. Danny Lamb won the first moto in this race over John but it all turned around in the final moto. Mathews won and took the best trophy over Lamb. Troy Wehy was the winner of two classes tonight. He took the win in each moto in the Junior Cycle Stock Junior class for the big trophy ahead of Bubba Erickson and Matt Blacklock. Then he did it in the Junior Cycle Modified Junior class in front of Blacklock and Erickson. Another consistent winner was Jim Collier, who raced in the 8!lcc Stock Junior 12 and over race. He lost the first moto to Mike Hammond but came back and won the final bout. Overall it was Collier. Hammond, Toby Lawes and Robert Clarke. .JR CYCLE MOO EX' 1. Kvle Lew.. IYaml. 2. Healey hot at OCIRMX By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, SEPT. 18 Well it wasn't the Fourth of July but the fireworks were exploding in the skies above OCIR for this evening's motocross show. A fireworks company was displaying its line of products for the Disneyla nd people and all of the action took place on the drag strip in front of the motocross races. the crowd that was on hand to· night came out to race for the Ceet gas tank and seat covers that were being given away to the winners and the Pros were after the points in the series. Mike Healey won the Mini Inter· mediate competition ahead of Kevin Fringer and those two led both Randy Skinner and Rick Atkins, who were going at it for fun on XRs. Paul Denis beat Larry Brooks in the first moto of Mini Expert competition but then Brooks won the deciding final race. Richard Sands was third. There was only one Kawasaki in the 125cc Novice class and it belonged to Bill Thiebert who came out the oveall winner. Thiebert has been putting a lot of his construction money into his racing machine and it has really paid off between Saddleback and OCIR races. Thiebert won both motos but bad to pass Greg Hammon, who grabbed the lead in the final moto. The top finishers in this class were Thiebert. Greg Bender, Jim Kennedy and Hammon.
