Klyota sponsor correction Your article in the August 27, 1980 illlue in regards to Keith Kiyota's win of the Novice road race at Pocono had him incorrectly ~red by Brighton Cycles Ltd.!Senu Yamaha. Cornction should be made to Brighton Cycles Ltd.!j .. B Yamaha. Thanks. FRANCEST. KIYOTA Brighton Cycles Ltd. Brighton, CA Aqua festival correction A super commendable job by reponers Tony Bell and john Rannikko on the Austin Aqua Festival road races (Vol. XVII: ISS: Aug. 27). But I must correct the infonnation supplied with the half-page picture on ~ge 25. That is not Bobby Goodwin (white helmet in third) shown but San Antonio) Paul Krueger (Duc) sponsored by Schoffer Brothers, although the Goodwin diSqualification is correct. Also in the results yours truly is listed on a Yamaha in the Open Stock Production, which in reality was a GSIOOO. But it was a great repon. As a some· time stringer for Cycle News myself I know how hard it can be to get things accurate, and to accquire useful information. But they did a bang-up job; caught the mood just perfectly. J. LACEY San Antonio, TX Dede clears the air As you are aware, an ad appeared in the September 3 edition of Cycle News on page 35, congratulating me on winning the Women's National Moto· cross Championship. Although lap' preciate the recognition for my achievement, I feel that the ad may cause considerable confusion. since it appears to imply that I use the products featured in the ad. To clarify matters and to go on record publicly, the following companies have assisted me in my racing activities and I use their products because they perfonn: KRW Helmets, Hi·Point Boots, O'Neal Handlebars. ND Spark Plugs, t'.P .Lu~ .. and SuperSeer Goggles. If you compare this list of manufactur· m with those noted in the ad, it be- comes apparent that I use different boots, goggles, handlebars, chose to wear another brand of helmet, and lubricate my bike with another brand of lubricants. The companies noted in the ad may manufacture products that are wonhwhile, but the ad is not consistent with the products I use on the race track. My sponsors and competi· tors know this, but, unfonunately your readers may not. I have no intention of creating a controversy, but feel that I have a responsibility to clarify this error since it's associated with my name and perfonnance. DEDECATES Women's MX Champion Anaheim Hills, CA When the Oregon Old Timers throw a National you can be sure they bust their butts trying to make it 100%. This year the weather cooperated au the track at Clarks Branch near Roseburg was in great shape: Underground sprinklers, real hiHa, double jumps, super traction and room to pass. After the races they passed the Mt and gave EImcr Krauss and mJldf OYer $500 to cover our ambu1aJlce expenses. I want to thank jim Onnaby and all the Old Timers from Canada, WaahiDg. ton, Oregon, Nevada and California - you guys sure made Elmer and myself stan feeling better. Hope to see you all at our Winth National at Saddleback. tentatively !let forlate jan. '81. BOB MILLNER L.A. Chapter We didn't know that! Goodyear rep replies Did you know that on Aug. 31.1980 the 200th AMA MX National was held? It was the 500cc race at St. Petersburg; the 200th since they started back in 1972. When I read the report on the 50Qcc British Grand Prix at Silverstone on page 16 of your September 5 issue, 1 was surprised to see writer Mick Woollett repon that Kenny Rohens was "slowed towards the end by a wearing rear Goodyear though he is too. loyal to his major sponsor to complain." Our racing tire engineer who serviced that race. 'Mark Seloover. informs me there was absolutely nothing wrong with Kenny's tires at the conclusion of the race. The fact is that Kenny was running his well-sorted older model bike on a conservative tire combination specifically to reduce the possibility of a DNF and subsequent loss of points. I don't know how Mick Woollett came to his unsubstantiated conclusion, but to avoid any future misunderstand· ings I hope you will infonn all your European correspondents to feel free at future races to approach Goodyear's racing tire engineers with any tirerelated questions. NY SCORE replies to Houtermens I am sorry I had to find out about your discontentment concerning the Bridgestone/SCORE Off-Road World Championship through the pages of Cycle News. Unfonunately, your inaccuracies and feelings about the payback have already been printed and many of the fine readers of Cycle News have been exposed to it. I have found that when someone nonnally has a problem. the beat way to rectify it or at least get an answer is from the source, which in this case is SCORE International. Enclosed are copies of two bulletins which were sent out from SCORE International. Contained in them is the exact amount of cash purse and information on how the cash purse be distributed. This would information wa. obtained by you or your Rider of Record prior to the event and prior to your deciIion to enter the event. Unfonunately. either you or your Rider of Record did not take the time to read the information. Published letters do not necesserily reflect the position of Cycle News. Inc.
