In the 80cc Novices, yet another
Kawasaki of Salinas rider is setting the
pace for the checkered flags, Young
Jeremy Chisum took his KX80 to the
come-from-behind win over Jeff
Pestana and just to keep Team Green
envious, Joey Diaz beat out Ricky Diaz
in the 80cc Junior class once again on a
Kawasaki.
In the hot and heavy 80cc Expert
main, it was once again Kurt Chandler
doing the driving on his Salinas KX80
with excellent style over Winkie Freitas
and Carr. Freitas led most of the show,
but succumbed to the pressure of the
fast tooter.
Dave Cabellero beat out Eric Kiser
for the I25cc Novice/Junior class with
Adam Sabedra the 250cc Novice
winner over Lenny Cruze and Steve
Fischer. The usual madhouse of 250cc
animals saw Pete Murray take the
250cc Junior win over Caballero, both
on NO-sparked Champion Yamahas
b'reathed upon by Bud Martin while
Ronnie Evans took third on the RC
Cycles Yamaha.
Larry Krusemann got the lightning
bolt start for this week's thriller 250cc
Expert race along with Bruce Johnson,
Dave Boyles, Jim Mertens, Danny
Moore and Chandler about in the
middle of things. Boyles dispatched
Johnson as Mertens moved alongside
while Moore and Chandler kept up
their own battle.
By the third lap, Johnson had regained second and set up Kruseman
when a four-man contingent swept by
those two putting Boyles in front of
Moore and Chandler. By lap eight,
Chandler moved by Moore and before
the white flew, went around Boyles
and did his sixth straight 250cc win in
fancy style. Another excellent main
event.
Mike Ahm has little trouble keeping
his Red Ahm Cycle Honda in the front
part of the ~60cc Junior class with John
Carter once again second. Steve
Carrillo out-horsepowered the ~60cc
Expert class with Rocky Malynn
keeping him honest on his Bul over
Kevin Hugill's·Yamaha.
Ben Mosier is once again around the
tracks watching Denny Mosier do some
winning in the 500cc Novice class.
Steve Nunes likes dad's track prep
more and more and won 500cc Junior
over Rich Kroske's Cycle Salvage
Honda.
Bob Cunnington and Rick Eklund
were never more surprised to see both
Danny Moore and Doug Chandler
sweep by them down the back straight
in the opening lap of the 500cc Expert
main with Chandler taking the point
early and leading to the checkered for
a truly wonderous double header
victory. His ftrst of that kind in some
time panned out even more when the
organizers came up with yet another
event called the "King of the .Bay"
where they took 14 Experts and ran for
all the money. Chanlder was so hot, he
took that one with no sweat whatsoever.
Wow, a triplel
