Open chus (2·1) and finished founh overall in the finalatandings. Moto one was locked up from the drop of the gate to the flag by Ron Turner. Turner seems to ride effonleuly on the Open bikes. On lap nine. Turner had opened up a good lead over Hardick with Arner (Yam) and Steve Walker (Yam) making up the top four. At the checkered flag, Turner crossed the line just five seconds ahead of Hardick for the win. Arnet was third with Robert Marino (Yam) a solid founh. The Suzuki·mounted Hardick was unstoppable in moto two. When he took the lead on lap two, there was nobody in the world who was going to catch him. Mark White (Yam) was running second with Arner, Marino, Dale Anderson (Mai), Micky Dymond (Mai) and Turner traiJinlt. Hardick was running away with the race. On the new and extended track, Hardick was turning laps consistently at 2:20, the fastest for the day. At lap five. Marino closed in on White and passed him as did Turner and now Turner was stalking Marino. As these two riders passed the scoring stand, Turner took the inside line and edged his way into second place. The moto ended with Hardick winning handily and getting the overall also. Turner was second and second overall. White was third. With Turner's second·place ride Sunday, he sewed up the aeries overall in the Open class. Second overall in the series went to Staten, then Walker, Hardick and Matt Tedder. Gormley goes for ifafDeAnza By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, AUG. 24 After watching the first 250cc Pro moto at DeAnza cycle park last week there seemed little doubt that Craig Gormley (Yam) (Yam) was the hottest rider of the day. He pulled the holeshot and walked away while most of the rest of the pack crashed over one another. Robbie Brand (Kaw) went down in the first turn and took Mark Barnes (Yam) with him. Danny Burtt threw a rod in his Can-Am while in second place, while his teammates from Suzuki of Riverside, Jon Friesen and Ken Campbell, both crashed their CanAms. Barnes was able to remount and work hard enough to eventually pass Jerry Lawrence (Yam) for second place. Friesen was fourth ahead of Brand, but everyone was an almost ridiculously long way behind Gormley_ But Gormley's next moto wasn't so easy. Barnes led a tight three man freight·train through most of the race, barely holding off the advances of Gormley and Brand. Gormley finally got by Barnes, but within a lap he had slid out and let both Barnes and Brand get past. But then it was Barnes' tum to blow it, letting Brand into the lead. One lap later Brand fell, letting Gormley back on top. Somehow Gormley managed to avoid any major disasters in the last two laps to win the race. Brand was second but had to settle for third overall behind Barnes. The 250cc Novice class saw John Mitchell (Suz) win the first moto and then follow it up with a second in round two. Dennis Boulware (Suz) was the man to win that moto, leading every lap. Mitchell got a fifth place stan and cut his way up to second which was all he needed for the overall brasa. Boulware was second overall beCaus:t of' IUs 'foUrth' pface 'finish in' o BOSCH Spark. Plugs-The Winner's Choice ROBERT BOSCH SALES CORPORATION Dept. CN 345 E. Grand Ave. S.
