With but one event left on the Wednesday night schedule, Chandler has wrapped up the Fremont Raceway tide and is leading David Boyles [or the top digit in District 36 Black Plate competition by one point that will make that battle a thriller right to the end of the season. P.J. Sanchez doesn't mind all the big boys being gone for the National runoffs and won the lOOcc Expert class over Kelly Fischer. Bryan Taber had Rocky .Robinson port up a barrel on his Yamaha of Salinas mini and went out and won the 80cc Novice/Junior class with Jeremy Chisum taking the Novice portion over Jeff Pestana. Kurt Chandler returned from football practice having made the team and went right back to winning the 80cc Expert class coming from behind to beat out Sanchez and the troops. Doug Baker. the former Mini kid, won the 125cc Novices over Brian . Blackburn. Adam Sab'edra had little challenge in the 250cc Novices except for Steve Fischer, who took second on hisCan·Am. Dave Caballero had all sorts of competition in 250cc Junior and had to do some fancy manuvering for that win with. Ron Evans holding onto second over Pete Murray in a real good crash-and-bash event. It took a couple of starts to get the I o 00 0') At Washougal. 125cc Intermediate Doug Lange picked a most inopportune time to dump his Kaw. Say goodbye, Doug. 250cc Experts going, but when the green finally took charge, it was not Chandler in front. Ken Robicheaux and Dave Boyles were doing the chores. Robicheaux on the Bob's Garage Yamaha and Boyles on his Champion-framed Spinetti's Honda CR had a good battle but it was the Chandler kid who made up the time and passes. He took the lead from arch-rival Boyles just two laps from the end, once again doing a job that deserved and got a standing ovation from the partisan crowd. Rick Record came back to win the 360cc Novice main on the Bultaco Astro·with Mike Laird in for second. Mike Ahm and Danny Russell had a good main event battle in the 360cc Junior with the Red Ahm Honda in for first over the Armstrong Cycle Works Honda. Brian Pecore brought out his Ang Rossi Yamaha for the 360cc Expert win over a tough Rocky Malynn on his Bultaco Pursang. In the 500cc classes, Barry Olsen won the Novice portion over Dave Painter and Joe Flowers had a good shootout with Steve Nunes in the Junior portion despite some heavy banging and sliding throughout 'the night. In the Expert portion, Doug Chandler had a double working his way despite a lot of pressure from Bobby Cunnington. Bobby came back to win the King of the Bay event over Robicheaux and Chandler in the big bucks affair. Results 100 EX: 1. P.J. Sonchez (Yom).
