were dueling for third. On the fIfth lap
they passed and repassed each other
four times umil Frampton got it for
keeps and ~t out after Bell and Hull.
With two laps to go Frampton took
second but Hull had a lO-length lead
and breezed to the win.
Darrel Davis' so-so performance in
his heat must of stimulated his desire
to win as he blew away the 65cc class
with ea~. At the end of lap one he had
a 2O-length lead over Shepard and
Tom Carriger.
The 85ccJunior Modified Championship found Turbett, Blagg and Craig
Howard running away from the other
nine riders and waging a three-way
bactfe that would last the emire 10
laps! With two laps to go Turbett took
the 'L!ad from Blagg and went on to
win.
Carr jumped out to a quick lead
over Harbert and Sherb in 85cc Senior
ModifIed action. but the race was
stopped when Illinois' Tony Sauder
cra~hed in turn two. The restart again
had Carr leading Harbert, Morton
and tne rest of the 85cc Senior Modifieds as Sherb coasted off the track
with ... dead motor. Aaron Hill moved
up through the pack to finish in third
as Carr won by a safe margin over
-Harbert.
~Iagg led the 85cc Junior Stock class
off the line followed by Eads and
Michigan's Bryan Pankey. But Pankey
ran off the track in the north end and
dropped back to sixth. Blagg was opening up a big lead and, at the midway
mark., Davis got by Turbett for ~cond

Turbett battled for ~cond all the way
to the checkers with Davis getting the
edge.
The 85cc Senior Stock was a replay
of the heat with the two Hill youngsters
running away from the pack with
Steve beating out Aaron.
Chris Carr became the only double
winner of the day as he easily won the
lOOcc Schoolboy championship over
two other Californians, Steve Hill and
Bubby Wilson.
The best rae eof the day turned out
to be the last race of the dayl What a
way to end a fine day of National Championship racingl Ron Bell had to scrap
his heart out to win the 125cc Schoolboy·Championship. Morton took the
early lead for three laps with Bell probing every possible pass. He finally got
the lead in the south end while
Thompson and Mike Jones began to
close on the two from-runners. By lap
six Thompson was really hanging it
out to the limit as he and Morton
would pass and repass each other for
second. At the white flag he fInally got
second for good as Morton made a
mistake in the uphill that put him all
the way back to sevemh.
