Joe Flowers dialed in the 500cc Juniors with a win over buddy Stan ' Morris , both on TT500s. Pecoreand Delacy brothers share Santa Rosa FairSTwins By Bill Spencer SANTA ROSA, CA, JULY 15 Fair circuit racing is probably the old time standard for regular folk to see what motorsport racing is all about and for the last 14 years during the Sonoma County fair, motorcyclists have put on great short track racing on the one sixth- mile dirt cushion of the Chris Beck Arena. Spicing up the regular program was an exhibition of motocross racers on the short track complete with knobbies and the number one Blue Plate kid, Dean Wiggins, was the winner. In regular competition, Chris Carr, the number one Mini kid, showed up as the only Expert and put on a show that had the crowd on its feet the whole main event. Having won the heat with ease , he started on the 50yard line to give the Novice and J unior riders a good start. Within th ree laps, he had completely passed th e entire field and then proceeded to lap through the pack again with full lock slides on his Jorgy RM Suzuki. His best re wa rd was a standing ovation at th e end of the run. Roger Faddis and Keith Espinosa shared trophy honors. La r ry Staggs won the n ex t tw o events as he ro und-robined wins in the 125cc Nov ice a nd Junior ru ns and th en easily out-distan ced th e 250cc Novice field incl uding Dan McDonnell a nd Eric Larson . Todd Skov ha d laid off racing for two yea rs and came ba ck for this sho w as a 250c c Junior , pro mptly winning all over Steve Hammerich and Kid Curry. Hammerich and Curry hammered out their own show in good style. In the 250cc Expert main, it was anybody's show as four different riders did the leading chores. Steve Crawford got the first start which didn't last. Jim Jepson picked it up only to give it back to Cr a wford 's Can-Am with Brian Pecore and Sal Hoffman trading off third and then second and then leading until Hoffman went wide. Pecore took the Ang Rossi Yamaha to the win over Crawford and Jepson while Hoffman was still trying to find the ins ide line on the Ken's R estaur ant, Harry Lillie special. Novice riders on the bigger bikes fought it out tooth and nail with Gary Leach taking the win over Rod Avilla and Alec Chickenoff. Joe Flowers and Jeff Iwanaga traded blows in the Open J u nior . Iwanaga took the win on the Gilroy Sports Center machine by a tad with Flowers a bit over Joe Carrera on his Knight-framed TT500. The Open Expert main turned out to be the best of the nearly 40 ·event show with lots of dicing and passing. Brian Pecore was looking for a double win early on, but got a little wide and allowed Mike Delacy under and by while Dwayne McCaslin, Sal Hoffman, Rick Delacy and a full field diced for third. While young Mike was riding off with the lead, older brother Rick was fighting to get into second and finally did, but it was ju st too late to catch the fleeing brother. The motocross exhibition saw some crisscrossing from heats to mains with the number one Blue Plate motocrosser, Dean Wiggins, the easy winner on the Petaluma Cycle Center Maico over Ted Cabral and the troops of lightweights. The B Main was obviously for the younger set with Howie Ross winning on the Cycle West Suzuki. A special Powder Puff event brought out some excellent talent and even some good racing. Donna Landon had all the right moves on the Knight-framed TT500 of Joe Flowers and won easily while Annette Beck was riding only her first event and took second on the Armstrong Cycle Works motor of her boy friend in need , Danny Malfatti. Great fun for all including Mary White, who is a correspondent on the MX scene for eN and would like to ride lots more. e Resu lts 80 NOVIJR : 1. Roger Faddis (KIW I; 2.
