AUG . 6 The Junior classes really stole the show in Speedway 117's weekly Wednesday night Coca-Cola Championships, In the 250cc , class, Mike Borun (Yam) may have gone two for two for the overall, but it was a five-way dogfight all the way in • each moto as point leader Chuck Kecskes chased him to the wire in the first moto and Steve Bolger did likewise in the second go-'round. Both motos featured five riders running in ' each other's hip pocket all the way. Kecskes hung on for the second and .Bolger grabbed third over Frank Thomason who had a tie-breaker over "fast improving Ronnie Seymour for founh. ] While Jim Klocksieben went two for ~r'two for the 125ccJunior win , again all · 'the action was right behind him or in ' the first moto ahead of him as David Crowson went out while leading the first round and Scott Allen came up with his best effort yet for two seconds. Tim Earls took a hard fought tiebreaker third over Scot t Bowman while point leader Mike Kincheloe let everyone thrash and bash (and crash) and cruised to a fifth . S Those Mini Juniors keep coming out in larger numbers each week and this week was no exception as the I~-rider .1, field produced a great tie-breaker win by first . year rider Mike Gilmanin (Suz) who took a 3-1 finish to blast favorite Mitch Palmer's 1-3 effort. Palmer is another new rider. Third spot went to another new rider, Robert Discanin, who edged point leader Kevin Nolan. In the "biggie" classes. ' I 25cc Pro point leader Rick Johnson returned from his highly successful Washington trip to run away with !tis specialty, and Bill Curran scored an upset win in the 2505 as Kirk Grissom fell after looking like he was home free. , On SePtember 17, .Speedway 117 will be the host of a CRC Qualifier for the big first ever San Diego .Stadium Amateur Supercrosa to be held on Oetober26. In the Modifieds it was all Fisher in both motos, but in the Stocks Mike had to come from behind for a tie' breaker second moto win to do the job. Intermediate 125cc rider, Larry Butler is no longer an Intermediate as the Yamaha hot-shoe once again went two for two in both the Stock and Modified classes to gain enough points to move up to the Experts come next race day . It wasn't even close in either division as Butler ran away from Rich Smith (Suz) in the Stocks and likewise blasted Chris Lamb and Bill Konig in . the Modifieds. With the Intermediates on a delayed stan with the Experts, Butler had a good chance to gage his performance for next race meet, and it looked like he should stan out well as he was ga ining on Steve Hitt and Mike Monsegur who were having their own private battle up front. Hitt had his hands full with Monsegur all day, and had to do a come from behind number in the Stocks for a squeaker win. Returning to the Minis, there was a mob scene in the Stock Novices , but the "Meanie Greenie" twins Mark Scott and Eric Dickerhoff prevailed for the two top spots with Yamaha rider Lance Barnett breaking up the Kawasaki parade with a tie-breaker third over Bryan Powell. Scott once again flagged his ' Kawasaki to a Modified win over visiting Phoenix, AZ, rider Tom Tait who caught on quickly to the wild and wooley Barona course. Honda rider T im Shoos came up in the second moto for third. And last but not least . those Beginners, just as the first wave of Beginners this year were . mostly Kawasaki mounted now its the Honda riders' tum. Brand new rider Javier Angivano just flat demolished the competition over fellow "chili pepper" rider Garrin Bryant in a giant . class . of mostly Hondas and Kawasakis.
