According to Au.tn.llan Motorcycle News, Honda will launch a turbocharged 500cc street bike at the Earls Court Show in England later this month. It was first thought the bike would be a turbocharged version of the CX5OO. but reports indicate it is an all new four-cylinder machine. Honda has reportedly aimed at producing 68 hp at 9.000 rpm to give the 500 the performance of a 750. It is said .t hat Honda'. main aim is not to produce a superfast road burner (although it will be fast! but to produce an engine that meets EPA requirements and 'gives increased fuel economy. Patrick Pons, '79 F750 World Champion and '80 Daytona winner , died Aug. 12 as a result of a crash at the Aug. 10 British GP at Silverstone. Pons and Michel Rougerie went off the track together on the third lap; Rougerie sustained minor inju ries: Pons was flown to a hospital in Northampton with severe head injuries. He died Tuesday evening without having regained conscionsness. Services were held Monday, Aug. 18'near Paris. Motorcycle jumper Gary Wells is doing well on prime time TV.
