"So far it seems to be a really fun
event. I kind of like the structure of
it; the team race is pretty fun. It's
wide-open fast stuff, which is way
different than a hare & hound, [but]
I kind of like it! We tried to gear it
as fast as we could; we ended up
going with 14/48 and the bike just
won't pull any higher."
They estimated Howes' bike to
be good for 110-115 mph. Their
time ended up 4:34:08.6
Third off the line and third at
the finish—both physically and on
corrected time (4:50:21.8)—Trevor
Hunter and Hayden Hintz had
wheelspin issues slow their ride
on Hunter's 3 Bros. Racing/1-
800-DENT DOCS/IMS KTM 450
XC-F. In fact, they wore completely
through the cords and finished
with gaping holes in their rear tire.
"Honestly, it felt fine and it was
hauling butt down the straight-
aways," Hintz said. "It felt a little
bit choppy, but that's common
with every dirt road out here. It felt
normal until this one road where it
started hopping really bad."
Nic Colangelli/Evan Kelly claimed
fourth overall, fourth Open Pro in
4:45:20.5 on their 3 Bros. Racing/
DT Racing KTM 450 XC-F with
399cc Pro winners Corey Fletcher/
Tayson Weeks aboard their Let's
Ride/TBT Racing/GPR KTM 350
XC-F squeaking past reigning class
champs Carter and Mason Klein's
Klein Industrial Services KTM in the
final miles, the two ending up fifth
and sixth overall.
Forest Minchinton/Ciaran Naran
rode their MotoCutz Honda to fifth
Open Pro, seventh overall,
followed by Over 30 Pro
winners Clint Braun/
Carl Maassberg, Open
Pros Taylor Stevens/Kyle
Tichenor and third-place
399cc Pros Matt Canepa/
Danny Cooper.
