GA , with Husqvarnamounted Heikki Mikkola taking the win and wrapping up the ser ies title as well. Hakan Andersson took second on another Husky and to make the day a Swedish sweep. Florida Husky rider Richard Burleson nabbed top America n honors in front of Jim Shotton. A National half mil e scheduled for Tulare was cancelled when the track's surface startedbreaking up as practice began. Efforts to repair the surface were futil e and th e decision was made to cancel. A near riot occurred among the overflow crowd . and promoter J.C. Agajanian was taken awa y from the track by an ambulance attendant to prevent inj u ry after he had been the target of assor ted debris. Trojan Speedway ra n a 50 -lap TT for 100 and 125cc bik es. a nd Gary Scott was the winner on a Kawasaki . Dale Hopkins took second followed by Rob Morrison. Speedway action saw Scott Autrey win Costa Mesa 's Handicap Main, ' wh ile Steve Bast did the honors in the Scratch program. Nicholas was also an accom plished violinist. In a motocross at Champion Speedway in northern Cali fornia . Carl Cranke . was th e dominant force , winning th e 125. 250 and 500cc Seni or classes. He rode a Sachs, CZ and AJS. respectively. A big-name mo tocross a t Ba y Mare found Bob Grossi (H us) topping th e 500cc Sen ior cla ss with second overall going to Jim West (AJ S).
