Two. That's a number you can associate with Kenny
Roberts. He's two-time World 500cc Road Racing
Champion. He's a two-time winner of the Ame rican
Motorcyclist Association's Grand National Championship. It's the number he carries on h is machines
when he races in AMA/Winston Pro Ser ies events,
such as the TT he won in February in the Houston
Astrodome, or for the upcoming National road race
at Laguna Seca, which he has won the past two years.
B y the time you read this, there will be two rounds
remaining in th e 500cc World Championship Series,
which Roberts currently leads by 12 points - the
biggest margin he's ever had with three races left.

But on the other hand, the competition's gaining.
After winning the first three rounds, Roberts suffered
a flat tire-induced DNF in Holland. Then in Belgium
he finished third, allowing Suzuki's Randy Mamola,
winner of-the race, to close within 12. As you 'll read,
Roberts gives the Suzukis the advantage in this weekend's GP in Finland, so things could get tight for the
last two GPs of the year, in England and West Germany.
We caught up with Kenny _an d talked to him on
the phone shortly before he flew back to Europe to
prepare for the Finnish GP.
