o 00 0') 1""""4 (Clockwise from top left) Johnny a streaks toward his first major win. Eric Geboers. Ron 'Su n, Support winner Mike Guerra. 8 Then Bentley went down and couldn't get his kickstarter free . Nani call ed it quits. Then Benolkin was out in th e mechanics' area with painfully mudpacked eyes. Geboers ret ired. Everts went out. Finally Rahier pulled off. A World Championship round - and Evens , Geboers and Rahier were sitting on the hillside watching it! Then O'Mara fell while looking at his mechanic's pit board, and Coon got by a half lap later. The two jockeyed for positions but Coon won out. A third overall was good enough for O'Mara, though , and after he took the checkered he rode back to the pi ts waving an American flag. "The last couple of laps I could hardly make it up the hills ," said O'Mara. "I have to thank Ohlins, Dunlop Tsubaki, Showa, Bosch , Electro, Scott and Bill Walters - without them I just couldn't ride ," O'Mara still undergoes therapy for a crushed vertebra and muscle spasms he incurred from crashing his va n a few months ago . " I was. making pit stops for goggles. I just took it real easy - I d idn't want to make any of those stupid mistakes," said Sun. ' "One time I got O'Mara, but I only had him for one straight. Then I went wide and he got me again, but I got him back," said Coon. "At least I'll get a bonus check this week!" "I ride mud. If I not have bike problems I would have done well today. I took in water," said Velkeneers, "I have engine trouble. In the first moto I crashed three times , but I don't believe anyone who finished didn't crash. This was not a race, it was a luck game. I will win in Spain," said Geboers. Everts was rather reclusive after the event,' as he sat and nursed his barely openable eyes. 250cc Support Mud master Mike Guerra took the Support class overall with a 2·1 tally. Possible contender for the win Denny Swa rtz had his plans thwarted when he went down at the start of moto one. Factory Husky sponsored Gu erra , Troy Bradshaw and Dave Hollis went out front at the moto one start after a severe storm which never really su bsided. Jeff Hicks kept himself in the hunt . Hollis closed on Guerra and it went down to the final lap, when Guerra's bike skated out from under him . Hollis went past the checkers for a fairly safe . win with Guerra, Bradshaw, Hicks and Swartz trailing. In moto two Guerra picked precise and careful lines and was never headed. Buchanan 500cc National round winner Swartz shadowed Guerra, but later fell back and a fast-paced Hollis took second. Guerra started lapping riders and won followed by Hollis, Hicks who had displaced Swartz - Swartz, Floridian Mike Twigg and Scott Lester . " It was 50 slippery I just mellowed out, " said Guerra . "T hen I saw Hollis coming so I gassed it. " Guerra now heads for Sweden and Finland to contest the remaining two 250cc GP rounds. • Results 125cc INTERNATIONAL MOTO ONE IUNOFFICIAU : 1.
