We'll show you photos of those bikes as soon as Yamaha will let loose of 'em - hopefully at the same time they're being shown in Vegas. · Randy Mamola will not ride Laguna Seca. Randy's sponsor. Suzuki Great Britain. has instructed him not to compete in the non-World Championship event since he's in contention for the 500cc title. and they don't want him to jeopardize his chances for a championship series victory. Kenny Roberts. who leads Mamola in that same championship series. will contest the Aug. 2·3 Laguna Seca Winston Pro event. however. Mike Krauser, the guy who makes the touring cases and saddlebegs. is now marketing a complete metorcycle billed as the "ultimate street motorcycle." If perhaps it turns out not to be the ultimate in motorcycles. it at least will be the ultimate in expensive two-wheelers. The MKM·1ooo will retail for $14,00016,000. Attendees of the July 24-27 BMW Motorcycle Owners of America Rally in Prineville, OR will be the first to see the motorcycle. It has a "tubular grid frame," is powered by a BMW R100RS motor and it weighs about 430 lb. A maximum of 200 will be built. With two rounds remaining, Lackey leads Andre Malherbe (Hon) 192 to 185. Andre Vromans (Yam) led Lackey, Roger DeCoster (Hon) and Hakan Carlqvist (Yam) to the flag in the first moto. The second moto saw Carlqvist on top with Lackey. Vromans and DeCoster trailing. Malherbe suffered engine prob- lems in moto one finishing eighth, and was DNF in moto two. Bo O 'Brochta (Kaw) picked up the Top Fuel win in the July 19 IOBA Sunshine Nationals at South Carolina's Darlington International Dragway. Elmer Trett (H ·D) was on the losing end of O'Brochta's 7.88 second1l82.55 mph blast. Bob Carpenter (Suz) came our on top of his duel with TerryVance (Suz) in Pro Stock while Terry Kizer (Kaw) upset favored Mike Bruso (Kaw) for the Super Eliminator win . Starting July 26·27 at Carlsbad Raceway is the CMC Pacific Championship MX Series. sponsored by Bosch Plugs and Hallman Racing. With $30.000 in cash and prizes. the six-race series will then run at Huron Cycle Park. Prairie City OHV Park. Saddleback, Fremont Raceway and back to Saddleback on Labor Day weekend for a Sunday/ Monday finale. Speaking of CMC, mark down December 14 on your calendar. CMC will hold a four-stroke Dinosaur race at Saddleback on a specielly-bultt scramblas track. That's in addition to the Four·stroke Nationals to be held at Carlsbad on November 16. Laguna Seca-:- otherwise known as the Champion Spark Plug 200. is a must· see two-day program this year. The NMA's Grand National Champion· ship event at Ponca City, OK will include over 1.000 racers aged five through 18 from 46 states racing over a four-dav (Aug. 6·10) program that even includes a parade down Main Street.
