Experts fling their MXers around Sand Hill Ranch's scrambles track.
40
Bonovich claimed second and Palmer
third overall.
During the long wait for the ambulance before the I25cc Expert race ,
a lot of water was put on the track with
the result that both the Expert race
and the Intermediate one wh ich fol lowed were run in conditions that in
part seemed almost a grim re-run of a
winter mud run . Scott Rebuck (Suz)
was out first followed by Tim Lear
(Ya m) and Will Akers (Ya m) . Ake rs
was an early casualty and Ra ndy
Pockrandt , on a Suzuki, took over the
th ird pos ition until Rebuck fell on the
third lap and let Lea r and Pock randt
get past him. Their order was rea r ranged but those three, now Lear ,
Pockrand t and Rebuck , moved out
ahead , putting about 20 seconds
between themselves and those who followed .
Joey Schlag (KTM ) got a m id -pack
start and worked up into fourth at
about th e same time the three bikes
left in front of him .had pulled out
their 20 seconds. Mike Beier (Yam)
crashed a t the beginning of the moto
and was unable to climb any farther
than seventh.
For t he second moto , Rebuck aga in
got int o the lead but this time he
stayed to finish firs t. Schlag and Beier
got good sta rts as well and came across
the fin ish line second and th ird .
Comin g down the chute at the start
of rnoto one of th e Open Exp erts,
Pockrandt (Mai) looked promising bu t
he slid out in the turn and remounted
dead last only to fall , again and lose
more time before the first lap was
over. Keith Meyers (Kaw) was first
around the turn but he seriously overshot th e second turn and Br ian Jod ry
(Suz), Dean W iggins (Ma i) and Rick
DeLong (Ma i) were the early leaders.
J im
Inglebright
(Ma i)
claimed
DeLong's position by the th ird lap and
those pos itions - Jodry , W iggins and
Inglebright - seemed ironclad until
the final lap when both Wiggins and
Ingelbright heated it up a litt le and
moved up closer behind Jodry. Never theless, th e formation held all th e way
to the checkered flag . Pockrandt , with
seemingly undimmed spirit, kept pushing and fin ished a not too shabby fifth .
Wiggins led around the turn in the
second moto with DeLong , Pockrandt
a nd Jody following . Ingiebright. eager
to move up , fell in th e second turn and
reshuffled th e pack. Wiggins retained
the lead all the way to the fin ish for the
win and the first overall money . Jodry
moved up into second place and kept
pushing until he fell ~ n the final lap
leaving seco nd to Pockrandt a nd third
to DeLong.
